i put it up on piston heads and another site for sale i got so pissed of with time wasters i removed the add and just said fook it i will break it and scrap the shell its an E3 reg car and some in this condition are very hard to find, shame really at it would make a bloody good shell for track car, even the roof doesnt have a spot of rust

Would you be prepared to take a massive finnancial hit by restoring cars that would be worth a fraction of the rebuild cost?

I did, but it was both for sentimental reasons (my 1st car) and to learn (inc painting)

Click on my siggy. Yeh it's only an XR2, but brings a smile to my face everytime I go into the garage.

Oh, and it didn't cost me that much other than my own labour time. Probably save ££££'s staying out the pub too.

Then fair play to you! - I just get bored of hearing people whinging that a rusty old car should be saved, but then they're not the ones putting their hands in their pockets to make it happen.

ive taken huge hits restoring and modifying 2 cars, around £40G and they were crappy old cars as well. its not about saving classics, dont kid yourself on , theyre just run of the mill old cars. its done as a hobby mainly.

People seem not to have seen this line from the OP. So they aren't even what they appear to be. I'd suggest there's a handful of spare parts, and a couple of scrap shells??

I think there are to many old fords getting scrapped when they could be fixed.

Or maybe a lot of cars aren't worth fixing. Genuine classics are worth saving, but run of the mill and non-special Fords just don't command a price which makes them worth saving.

Sad but true. With the rose-tinted specs off the blue oval badge doesn't automatically mean the car should have a full restoration.

Couldn't agree more, but there's also the fact that broken cars give life to other cars

any old rotton xr 2 or 3 needs all the good bits taking off and welding up which is cheep if you can do it and taking round the track in the hot fords.

thats why them classic banger racerss get grief,to restore a big jag costs big money yet a banger racer can strip and sell off loads of bits which enthusiasts buy up then race the car and still sell possibly the running gear and then take the scrap over the bridge.

Found a mint mk3 xr3i in a barn not far from me. 2 owners from new, been there 20 yrs, could be restored to concourse easily, dash has no cracks. was in a crash, repaired , but while being repaired the owner bought a xr4i and just stuck the escort in his barn when he got it back. Friend mine offered £800 for it so far, but the guys quite happy leaving it in his barn for another 20 yrs. (he also has a rotted out mk1 golf shell in the yard and a old double Decker bus in the barn).
