Much rather buy a 3dr like Carlos old one for a third of the price anyday , and then i could actually use it, just a quick one Nth Yrks spares...do you actually ever use them for flying about Scarborough in even on the odd occasion, yeah ive seen them at the shows but it just wouldnt be enough for me,i like to use them a lot, hence why one of them just wouldnt be for me.
Go on you tube and type in rs500 at croft rsoc day

As much as i like the RS500, i wouldnt spend twice as much/3 times as much on one over a 3 door. 99% of people wont know the difference when your out in it anyway, and for the extra you get its just not worth the extra money to me. I bought my escos for 3 times the price of a saff mainly because of how it looks if im honest (and the fact ive always wanted an escos), but its a totally different car, whereas a 3 door and an RS500 cannot really be called 'totally different' car. I think its mainly the 'history' of it thats attractive to people, but for me that means nothing really.
But if thats what people want then fair play, im just saying its not worth the extra to me, just like im sure many people say the escos is not worth the extra over a saff etc etc.

Yeah I was there and I also seen you putting out the flames underneath it Paul, like I said, best locked up in glass cases ,not the best way to spend 30k IMO.

I use both my 500"s and have also owned stupidly low miles 500"s that i didnt use
You buy a car thats suits what you want it for , the bonus with a 500 is that whatever you do with it , it will still either hold its value or go up

To be fair, if you want a fast car to use, buy a 3 door and put the 500 bits on it. If you want an original 500, buy one! It is quite simple really, you have got to REALLY want to own a 500, and accept that you can't put miles on it or risk damaging or heavily modifying it.
Good RS cars will always sell, as said look at RS200s, Mk1 Escorts, etc etc. Every quality RS car will appreciate (as a stand alone on it's purchase price) as the bad cars get crashed and broken for spares, the nicer cars values go up.
Just look at saffs now, a couple of years ago you could pick up a saff clinging to T&T for under 2k, now a good saff with history will cost you 5-6k min, same as 3 doors went through their slump a few years ago.
Escort Cossies are in their slump at the moment, give them 2-3 years and the prices will be creeping back up again.

It is no different to buying a fake watch this argument over 3dr/rs 500... some people like the idea of owning the genuine article,
I am seriously thinking of putting one of these in my new double garage

first of all thanks graceland
dann the question wasnt can i afford a rs500 or not ,for which i can and pay in cash if i want.but as i said the economy isnt strong enough at the minute to pay out in cash for a car for which is only a luxury really.its just a dream i have ,to own a piece of motoring history from an era that i grew up in thats all .i would never jeoperdoise my family or their future for the sake of a car.the reference to remortgaging was a way of seeing how people would compare doing it as a investment the same way as they would say add a new kitchen or sunroom .i attended a funeral recentley in the isle of man where my old boss died of heart failure which was caused by a virus [11 years ago],he was buried on the day of his 45th birthday and left three kids and a wife,he was a multi millionaire and now hes dead ,all he ever done was work and im sure if he had his time back he too might have lived life differentley.but hey i do value and take on board your opinion ,that was the reason behind the thread was to find out what people thought on the subject.

initially i thought wtf he must be totally mad, but then i've read the four pages and now i'm wondering if your onto something!
I think if you can't afford it without debt then don't do it. But thats why i'm driving a ten year old car and not a focus rs!

I reckon if you went onto a porshce or rs4 forum or something and asked this very question, i reckon alot of people would say it's a good plan and what they already do!

thats fine but i was brought up to make my own way in life as i'm sure yours are,my dad gave it that chant for years but me and my brother will do just fine without his cash left to us.
we have both told him to enjoy his cash in later life as when it comes to mortgages most folks spend 20+ years working hard to pay them off.
i would be happy to get nothing and know my parents had a few holidays in retirement.
your kids will think the same way!
thats it sorted then!get the 500 bought

ok everybody heres a few sums ,now dont everyone jump down my neck ive had a look at some bank rates
typical car loan
for say 22k over 5 years typical apr is 9.6% ,repayments £459 total cost approx 28k
typical remortgage
22k fixed rate at 4.5% ,repay the £459 as above ,total cost of loan £24.5
if you took 22k over say 25 years then your repayments would be £121 per month and the total cost of credit would be 36.5k
so worse case scenario the 500 will have to go up 14.5k in 25 years, which will happen
so if you keep the same repayments the same you save 3.5k,which should pay for the polish lol
NOTE/ I HAVE NO INTENTION OF DOING THIS AT THE MINUTE LOL
