Default S1 decision

Right need some opinions- bought an escort S1 which i'd previously owned about 4 years ago, the guy i'd sold it to had an engine rebuild on it from a guy off Seriesoneturbo site which died on the way home from the garage- he then decided to get a ZVH rebuild from a reputable engine builder but had already stated he was looking to sell the car when the new engine was in, had only been run in for about 100 miles when i'd bought it back. has now only covered about 400miles and the engine has blown and needs new piston and rods, have been told the engine build was a pile of shite, not bedded in properly and all in all a joke. had spoken to the guy that built the engine before and after i'd bought the car and he did tell me it wasnt an inexpensive build and was standard so didnt expect to be repairing it already.

I was told there would not be a warranty with the new engine which is fair enough as i could blow it up easily by drving it like a cock while it was running in, i did ask for a receipt for the build but have so far been fobbed off by the garage and previous owner (only wanted it as history for the car, not as a guarantee or anything, but told they had no headed paper atm, asked for it in an email, but still nothing.)

What i need to know is, is it worth spending the 1k on new engine plus labour time on top, can get an engine that i know will be mint from another engine builder that really knows what he's doing,or i could rebuild curerent engine but parts would run me about 650 plus labour so prob would be easier to change engine or do i sell it on as rolling shell, or strip it for parts. the shell has covered 84k, and i know its straight and clean, i've also known 3 owners of the 5 and it is a local car.

I would like to keep it but really unsure about spending an unexpected maybe around 2k on it, but on other hand is there much of a market atm for parts, shell etc?

anyone any ideas?

depends really on what you paid for the car, how good condition it is etc etc. If it is a good clean s1 then it will most likely fetch ok money.

However, parts do seem to fetch good cash so you could make money stripping it, but then you have the hassle of doing that and posting/selling/storing parts.

I wouldn't sell as it is as it wont fetch good cash.

in very good condition, its a really solid shell, and all the bits are standard.

got it at a good price, but in hindsight, obviously not such a good price!!

will have a think, speak to Jano and see how much exactly this new engines going to cost before deciding for sure.
