when i spoke to bernie a few months ago he was explaining the differences and also showed me the difference
i admit though all i asked was that straight cut was
his cogs are designed around the gleeb kits but are not straight cut , he done em as he had issues with the gleebs on certain cars
but again i aint got a clue what he was talking about

I know they aint the same box mark, hence the DOG box and BIG TOOTH bits in the title..
I aint arsed bout the dog / syncro thing - just wondered which would be good for the escort. Never had experience of either so its a tough decision for 1500+ quid

sorry - obv didnt read the title correctly !
hmmm now , as for which type , the 1st thing to decide is , how many miles a year do you do in your car ??
as the dog box will need more maintenance over given miles, and the headache factor , being straight cut and having dog engagement you will have a splitting headache and a nice large bruise on teh palm of your hand after a few changes without gloves on.
i nearly went back to a synchro unit , but for my application you just cant beat a dog box.
also depend on how rough you are with teh boxes themselves, some say ' im not hard on gearboxes' as they snatch the gear from one to the next , and then wonder why they go through so many , lots a variables tbh

No offence to rod or his power, but it aint used on track, so no good to compare it...
Most 2wd box's last 400bhp on the road-1/4 but fuck up on the track.
Thought the size was simular to t5, but again that aint important as the tunnel is easily modded.

I am pretty nasty on the gearbox to be honest, hence the dog box choice....
Can't hear fook all in car and got an intercom on the way so shouldn't be a problem too much either...
But the pain of rebuilds and miles should always be a factor to be honest...
I just don't know.

sorry ill explain what i saw, think i was thinking correct
the bernie is a syncro gears, there not star shape cogs, the actually cogs run at a angle compared to standard cog ( ie cycle or watch), the gleeb it straight cut and a star shape, standard looking cog ( as in a cylce cog or a watch cog )
hope that explains better

aha your getting mixed up with bernies box which has helical cut gears ,and the likes of the glebe which has straight cut gears
the bit about synchro and dog is teh system used to engage the gears !!

well the glebe dog boxes are more than used to lapping donno with 450+bhp up them!!
have a look for 2nd hand one and maybe it wil already have a prebuilt in racing line homeing device fitted!!
im sure nick at glebe will tell you first hand what they drive like and rebuilds wise.

Jus one lil thing, apart from it being more miles, and longer sustained use, idve thought the 1/4mile would be a sight harder on the gearbox than the track is, more shock loadings on the gears etc

nah i dont reckon.
how many down changes do you do on the strip? how likely is the chance of you being a bit brutual when all youve got to do is concentrate on goign forward??
do you go sequentially through the gears from 1--4 or whatever... yes...
id say track was far worse! only the launch no doubt worse - but thats not just box is it and its only 1st gear on drag.

the tko is a race box was built for aftermarket use on mustangs and dodge cars
they rated at 600 but thats just on the save size our suppyler has these boxes running in big yank v8s with over 1000 blft torque drag use and never had a failer
i decided to go down this route as a t5 box only rated at 350 and max they can go 500 at a push
i was going to use viper t56 but being loads bigger and there 6 speed kit cost £2000 for the kit alone a modded box costs £750 2nd
so its 3000 in the car with a 2nd hand casing which does age with time aslo the viper kit rated at 500 blft only
the rm600 is brand new everything and the size of the bearings compared to a t5 are huge as are the input and output shafts
this is not a big berni but are your boxes warrenty to 600 btft ?????
zoo now doing these boxs with modded bell housing exchange ,big prop 1000blft rated new clutch plate to siut aplicatoin and modded vibratechic mount to fit on standard gearbox craddle
all parts suppled sepratly or drive in drive out starts from £2500 cable clutch £2800 complete centrepush and hyrdo convertoin
can post pics if requred but ding has already took the piss so doubt he is intrested he rather spend £300 a time on 2nd hand fooked t5s
