if you had got a cossie with "track prepared full cage semi slicks all the braces etc and it has a t78 greddy turbo kit, currently around 550 bhp" it would also prob handle like nothing you ever owned. that is unless you have once owned exactly that

You are right.

My mates own Scoobs, Evo's and Skylines and although I would buy a skyline tomorrow I know for a fact I would regret it! 2 wheel drive cossies are the best fun you can buy

thats my only point, for general road driving i would hate that, something responsive would be miles better, imo ofcourse
Could always use the gear lever and select 3rd instead of 5th/6th in that case

Go on justify that

2wd skylines are cheaper - faster - and more fun.

Why do people come on here and say, "Why oh why did i ever bother with cosworths?"

For fuck sake, is it like an old ex that you loved, but you fell out with ??? now you want to tell everyone how mean she was ???

Why would you bother with a R32 Skyline ??? Advanced ??? They were built in the same eira as the cosworths, just with more electric bits !!!

Why are you bothering with skylines anyway when theres Twin Turbo lamborghini Gallardos floating round that are more ADVANCED !!!

and there just small objects, pistons are like over 3half k for a good set.
the only reasson i know this is my mate had, before stolen a GTR T-T(twin turbo R32)

heres an Insight

From The pigs mouth - tarmac terrorist

Oh yea just to give you an insight into skyline ownership i'll list a few costs.

First off when removing the bottom pulley/crank pulley i broke the bloody thing.
Rang nissan. Nearly cried.
Ł425 + vat.
for a bloody pulley.

Second i noticed one of my engine mounts was broke, so needed to replace one but decided to do them both at the same time while engine was out.
So rang nissan again.
Ł59 + vat each
nearly cried again.Just for a rubber block with a thread either side.

3rd, i had to take a anti roll bar link rod off and would it hell undo. Now this link rod is about 4" long so i thought, oh that will only be about Ł10-Ł15 trade.
Wrong, nobody other than nissan does them.
So i nearly cried again when they quoted Ł150 something + vat

I even struggled to get a timing belt kit for it so had to ring nissan.
they said "we don't do a kit you have to buy it seperate.
Ł48+vat for belt
Ł56 +vat for tensioner
Ł59 + vat for idler pulley.

Thank god a supplier got back to me and he could get me a Blue point timing belt for Ł28 and the tensioner for Ł38. I am using the original idler pulley as it has no play and no noise.

My mates got an R32 track car, done probably 20k track miles in the last 5 years, and he was prior to this a massive massive cossie fan, but now, he'd never buy another trackcar unless it was a Skyline. Its never had any major repair in all the years and trust me, Dave is a very very hard driver.

Running about 450 ish bhp, its an amazing bit of kit. Having been on trackdays with him for the best part of 10 years and watching the previous mechanical troubles with the Sierras, i can the reasoning behind the love for his nissan.

He still rates cossies but as road cars nowadays.

At the end of the day the skyline came along after the success of the cosworth and killed the seemingly unstoppable cosworth but doesn't mean it's better TBH just faster same size car jap have alway's been more advanced with everything TBH,

Now i would take a 400+rwd sierra cosworth anyday over any jap mobile there good i grant u that but why bother when a ford is good strong capable of delivering that power

Where are you gonna use 650hp+ where in brittain with traffic light's everywhere lol and if u just say for track that's alot of money for a track car 6-8k ish,

Choose the sierra for the drive deliver's on the road alot better than say 5k rev's lol.

IMO of course skyline's are awsome machine's but ford cosworth that bad they dont deserve slagging off like you said why did i ever bother cosworth you tell me if you didn't like the car why buy it?

Some strange comments on this thread, the type of car you drive is a personal thing a Skyline does nothing for me whatsoever if I went Jap it would be an EVO. However no Jap car have the Cosworth iconic status, never have never will. A cars performance is dictated by its state of tune a 700bhp Skyline makes a 450bhp Cossies seem slow, surely not . Power is relative a 700bhp Skiline would be way off the pace for me, cos im used to big Power, put me against Kieths skyline with 1200 horses & I would think mine had its brakes on.
By the way only the driver of a small Turboed car, thinks high powered cars are hampered by lag on the road, get behind me & i will show ya .

Theres plenty of roads up north to keep me entertained in my skyline, over the winter im planning on rebuilding bottom end increasing to 2.7 litres, head porting (if it hasnt already been done) different cams and get MGT to remap the HKS ecu for nearer to 700 bhp. Good stiff shell with double wishbone suspension (better than those twiggy things hanging off the side of sierras) good gearbox to handle the power (why do you think a1 fits these to cossies) i can run it as 4x4 when it feels the need to run the front wheels or permanent rear wheel drive. This time next year it should be quicker than rods old sierra

i know its a supra and its rear wheel drive and its heavy,+ its how the car has been setup which can leave itself open to debate.

but generally at 7.25 minutes from standstill it looks useless to drive, not until 2nd gear and the higher rpms that it starts to make something of itself. however once on the move its undeniably quick as proved by the flybys... but as fast road car it would be useless in my opinion. then theres the debate of whats the point of a fast road car in this country. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYzaGOkh6Sc

There quick but so are the garage's with the repair bill

And iconic the COSWORTH has so much more iconic status TBH mate IMHO anyway everyone know's what model cosworth is,

Does everyone know what model's of the skyline u get as there a few aint they? single turbo twin gt-s etc etc so skyline's IMO aint looked at the same as the cosworth IMHO

The Skyline coupe is a "personal luxury car" - none of the Ford Cosworth range is or was. Two totally different concepts.

im neutral haha, ive had both and i will admit the skylines run rings around the cossys. and the skylines have alot more streetcred. i used to notice people taking pictures of my old GTR so much more than any of my cossys.

but on the performance side of things, i had a r33 GTST 385bhp, and an R32 GTR 525bhp and both were stupidly quick. but the cosworths are alot more fun. its a strange thing, for example at the moment in my garage there is the cossy and the RX7 and although the Rx7 goes so much better and sounds imense its the cossy i find myself gettin into.

also, would like pictures of the skyline.

i have no interest in doing 150mph up the a1 and going to jail

All engines have a limited life span, its about enjoying them whilst there alive and i enjoy the skyline more than the sierra. Its a great feeling laying 500 bhp to the tarmac in first and second under control.

So, what we've established in this thread, is that the six cylinder 2.5/2.6 turbo/twin turbo Nissan is quicker than the old four cylinder 2.0 single turbo Ford?
