Default Clunking Noise from 2004 Fiesta

Hi,

My girlfriends car is making a clunking sound when going going round corners and going over bumps, it sounds like it is coming from the drivers side wheel area but we have had a garage have a look and they can't see anything that looks wrong.
Is there anything that these cars are prone to that we would be best replacing first or is it just a case of replacing all the parts around that area until the noise stops?

Cheers,
Dan

How many miles has the car done? Are the drop links still ok? Spring snapped? Is the sound a metallic clunk or is it a repetative one?

Thanks for the reply. The car has done 40k miles. The noise can sometimes happen 2 or 3 times in a row especially if doing a tight turn like into a garden or similar. It's not like a metal sound really.

I would check the roll bar links when the car is on the ground.Grab hold of the anti roll bar and give it a tug up and down to see if the link rods are worn. Its hard to fault them when the car is on a ramp cause all the weight is on the links.

If the car has drop links I would unbolt it, as lifting the car keeps the link loaded with no free play.
You will then immediately see if it's loose, or stiff to move the joints either end.
failing that as said try levering things about where bushes are to see if any of them are dead.

First thing that comes to mind in wheel bearing, cos I had exactly the same symptoms on my old van...
