Moved abroad a year or so ago, Canada is okay, but its very behind the times, and people are all self obsessed beligerant wankers (mostly). theres this "im from the west coast" attitude.
there is a major drug and crime epidemic, car insurance is through the roof as theres only one company, petrol is expensive and everything is soooo far apart, it rains 10 months of the year, employees have no rights..... the list goes on.

Essentially to buy 1 pound you need two Canadian dollars. Insurance for my 2000 Jaguar is $130 a month for full coverage - Say 70 pounds.
My 1 bedroom "flat" which is above average and right beside the underground portion of the train (quiet) was $320,000. Say 150,000 pounds.
The average wage for a non-executive, non-trades here is around $40,000, so 20,000 pounds. I know plenty of people making above $50,000.
Gas (petrol) is $1.10 a litre. So 50p a litre.
The big crime here is over the grow ops. Weed is big business here. Thankfully the major crime is dealer on dealer. I have no worries walking the streets late at night anywhere. Very safe city. Now if I start dealing and pissing people off...
No MOT. Just an emissions test yearly that any car can pass. You can drive down to the States in 20 minutes from my house. There is some good to it.
We are behind the times. Most people prefer it that way. The whole west coast thing is that "we are doing our own thing". In many ways it's akin to WANTING to be unplugged. But being elitist about it too. Don't get me wrong, great place to live but very pretentious and borderline communist wth the government and social attitudes.
I still want to move to the UK. Anyone hiring? Heck, I'd even trade my flat for a vacation period with some good people. Who wants to come see the Olympics, I might wanna get outta town for that!

I'd love to move to Canada, funnily enough. Been a couple of times on holiday with the family (Calgary/Jasper/Banff) and loved it.
Holidays are different from real life though, so would need to properly look into jobs, housing, healthcare etc etc before i really know what its like i imagine.
That said, i'm probably too much of a pussy to up and leave my friends and family here, relying on making new friends in a foreign country.
One of them things if i dont do it in the next few years i never will, wife, house, kids etc... will end the dream.

I worked for Sage Software up until November 08 and have been in sales for some time. Long ago I fancied working for Demon Tweeks as an export agent for them. Never followed up on it. I worked in Education for 10 years too.
My dad is from Bristol, still have family there. My stepdad is from Avon. My nephew is just north of London. Since my dad is from there I can get a British passport still I think. Not %100 sure on the rules there. It would be easy for me to get in I'm sure. sadly, everyone will think I'm a Yank.
What parts do I like? Well I saw a lot of it when I was there. Scotland down appeals to me. LOL. Honestly, I had a lot of fond memories from Wookie Wole/Cheddar/Combe/Weymouth areas. I never did get far up North sadly.
From what I read and see, England has come a long way (for the better) since I was there. I live in a very ethnically diverse area so it's not going to be a shock to me to deal with Indians, Muslims, etc. Vancouver is quite like that if not more.

Testing the future
i'd like to try several other places, but having lived in germany for 4 years already i would not go back. not because there is anything wrong with it, except everything that PeterRST has said, but just because i've 'done that'. but i also know that the grass is not always greener ...

Wow, been searching some job boards over there. i know things are a bit dear compared to what I'm used to (petrol!) but holy shit there are some great jobs over there thay pay very well that I can do with my hands behind my back.
One thing about Canada and the USA is there is no caste system. BUT - There is a very different perception of you based on education compared to the UK it appears. Many of the same jobs and salaries in the UK are about who you are and your experience. Looking at the same jobs here in Canada you don't even get a call back unless you have a university degree.
Right now I'm a sales recruiter. I look at job markets all day long and wow, what a difference in employers expectations for hires. Might have to talk to teh wife a bit more about giving up the mortgage and the flat. She lived in London for a year back in the late 80's and wants to go visit again soon.
You guys in the UK don't have much to complain about especially if you are a Ford nut. All I get are Mustangs, old Focus bodies and Pickup trucks. Hell even all our old Escorts are just tarted up Mazdas. There is a racetrack about every 1000 miles here and it's a drag strip only! Still have never doen a track day in the car, just auto cross knocking over cones.

You never know what it's like to live in another country until you live there, spending a year in a place is not the same as actually living there.
For us it has worked out well and can't see us ever moving back to the UK, but that's not to say it's the be all end all over here.

Theres a big difference in say coming on a year long visa and working compared to actually moving to another country and having to live there properly from the onset.
You will always be in holiday mode on a year long visa.
