Glad you like the pictures. Here are a few more
Thanks for your kind words - the lens I was using yesterday is awesome for getting shots like these (Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L USM IS). The camera body is only an entry level cropped frame DSLR (Canon 450D) so with the 1.6x aspect ratio this lens gives effectively 328mm of maxium zoom even though is only 200mm. Once you get used to tracking the car well whilst panning and following through you get a fairly good hit rate. Out of 450 that I took I ended up with 190 clear ones which is not bad I guess. The hardest shots to get were the cars slowing into the esses as you have to slow your pan in time with the car slowing down - its pretty hard to predict with some of you who were brave on the anchors.
The good thing for me yesterday is that I didn't have to try and keep track photo punters happy ensuring that I got 20+ photographs of each car so they could go on a dvds. If I did have to do this I would have had to whack up the shutter speed to make sure I got more good shots from what I took and in doing so completely freeze out the action so the cars and the background look stationary. When a car is closing on a corner at 120+mph it needs to look like its actually moving. The key here is accuracy in panning when framing the shot...you really need to be able to anticipate the change in speed of the car so it stays sharp and the background becomes blurred and thrown out of focus. Depending upon speed you can go as low as 1/60th - but I find 1/80th works best for cars on circuit or drifting.
Hopefully next year my car will be running and I'll be driving instead of walking round the track all day LOL.
Also a big thanks to Emma for making sure I could get where I needed to get to actually get some of these photos.

Great pics and way better then the stuff the pro's are trying to sell from the same event!
Don't suppose you got any of the red mk5 RS2000?
I have looked through a few forums of peoples posts of track pics for this event and even though there are pics of cars in my session, there are none of the mk5!

I obviously have all the original RAW files captured from a 12.1pixel sensor so they work out at about 4290x2856 pixels - big enough for A2 prints. I was quite carful when taking the shots so they haven't been cropped down a huge amount so most are near that resolution.

Yes it was helen driving at the 4pm session, l was on at the 3pm session
The only reason we put YUM on was that the saph gearbox let go down crainers so we went over to the Fast Ford stand and collected YUM and thought l wonder how my laps would l get in
Cheers for the comments

here you go
I have applied no special photoshop magic to any of these shots so they are as they are straight from the camera with slight colour adjustments to compensate for the changeable lighting on the day.
Thanks again for your kind words.

the thing that really really fucks me off about national day is that some people who dont even own fords let alone a rs can get in and on track but as im not a propper rsoc member cant
think that needs sorting out
its a rsoc day or its not
it should be for all rs car owners nothing else

I suspect if the rule was RS cars only, they wouldnt sell all the slots, which would make the event unviable economically.
Would mean thinks like Ian's Focus cosworth wouldnt be allowed out too, which would be a real shame!
