Default Speed Camera's in South Birmingham, all been moved 100ft

Duno if they've done this any where else but by where I live most of the speed camera's have been moved back between 50 and say 150 ft

Lines havent been moved yet in the rd's but all camera's have been

I thought they were all put in accident black spots / area's ?

Does this mean all the accidents have been happening behinds the camera's? lol

Sneaky way to fool speed camera alert systems? GPS based ones might go off after the camera now

Although in reality they give miles of warning.

Just trying to figure why they'd move them

might have something to do with a lot of cameras being placed just within speed limit reductions, on corners etc so easy money spinners, while moving them 100foot down road puts them a reasonable distance from the obstruction/money spinning reason they were there. Then of course they have the moral highground for the camera as theres adequate warning of it.

You'd think so, but no. There's no point putting a camera at a crossroads, or a set of lights where the accidents actually happen. They have them a mile down the road where the road's nice and straight and they can catch as many people as possible.

Don't be under the mistaken belief that speed cameras have anything to do with road safety.

They were in my area today with the laser and were just around the bend with a bike further up to stop you. I mean, why have it around the bend when you could have it before the bend and have the Police bike with a warning beforehand to tell you to slow down because of the camera.

I seen 4 cars all lined up awaiting a ticket and one being handed out. It's all a load of dog shit.

there is a speed camera van in Warwick at a really dangerous junction, as you come off of the A46 up the slip road the road that crosses it is an accident black spot, must be a couple each week. so the camera van you see parked on the junction should be welcomed to over see the junction right?
Wrong, it is parked on the bridge over the A46 facing down the dual carriageway round a bend to catch speeders, and it blocks your view of on coming cars as you near the junction to turn

a lot of signs have been put up instead of cameras around here. they flash up your speed and tell you to slow down. i see that as a challenge....

notice how most of those speed boards have a "1" digit on the left so can register 3 figure speeds

We had one on base at faslane and with the massive wide straight long road down the middle of base it was always a good dare between mates to see who can get 100 on the speed board in a 20 limit

There's a really similar situation near work. The accidents happen at a crossroads, but the camera van points down a perfectly straight road with no turnings, no houses and a pavement that is set well back from the road.

Camera Partnerships are run as mini businesses. It is simply not in their interest to discourage speeding, just penalise it.

They are supposed to be put where there is already a record of accidents due to speeding, but they lie sometimes.
There is one in Toftwood, Norfolk, that is justified as being there as there 1 accident, where an ambulance had to attend.
The "accident" was a lad of 5 riding his bike on the sidewalk fell off it and broke his wrist, so an ambulance was called, this was then registered as a road traffic accident!!

i've noticed that, in my travels around the country, the speed camera's tend to be put on long stretches of road with perfect visability, just the sort of stretch of road you'd use to overtake a slwoer moving vehicle that's been sat in front of you for teh past 55 miles

I believe that the legislation states that they must all be near accident blackspots, but the definition of that is something ridiculous like within 2 miles

As you say, BLATANTLY they do nothing for road safety, in fact there is a lot of evidence that they cause accidents, but they do generate rather a lot of money, so they wont be getting taken down on mass thats for sure!

Were you on subs then if you were at faslane, or are there skimmers based there too?
I only know of it as thats one of the places Rob has said he might end up.

Yawn...

As Dan and Chip have said, it's all about money. Many camera vans even park in places where they cause 'panic braking' when spotted, i.e, just over the brow of a hill etc. If you have the benefit of common sense you can see that they are clearly an accident waiting to happen. The camera partnerships do have common sense but they choose to ignore it in favour or cash.

You can't even come out with the 'Don't Speed' argument, because of the way some of them are placed. Near us there was one in a 70, which had been brought down to a 40 because of roadworks and a camera placed. However, you'd never have guessed it was a 40 unless you seen one small sign which was really badly placed and my Mum was flashed.

Why not have lots of big bright 40 signs? They must have got lots of people that week. My Mum never heard nothing as someone burnt it out to her releaf. We seen it on fire when we went back to whether she was flashed, as she was sure she was going 60 in a 70. That's the first time she condone criminal damage.
