you only use a bit of sealer on the half moon seals 3 blobs ends and middle

I use a grey loctite sealer found in halfords which is very good also it can be picked off the gasket easily

The metal backed ones fit so much easier, and as has been said are reusable.

I use Cometic, with just a small blob of sealer at ends where the half moons are, must have been on and off at least 10 times, not the slightest hint of a leak.
I use Loctite 5900 or 5910, but 5910 sets in under 5 minutes, is actually a flange gasket and the only sealant I ever use on anything from engines to torches to water system in the caravan, even used some as window sealer, it really is awsome stuff.
