What Car and Parkers offer car valuations.

Also it's worth looking on the Autotrader site for cars with a similar spec. so you can use that as an arguing point. That's what my brother did and they ended up repairing his car instead of writing it off!

So depending on colour, mileage, pre-accident condition etc You could ask for as much as Ł5000.

They are probably basing it on Glasses Guide price for Trade.

Insurance companies suck. Bastards.

Think a lot of insurance companies use the Glasses Guide now and they are robbing buggers!

When my old escort cosworth got written off they made there first offer of Ł7250 which sickened me.
Thats even with the valuation i sent in from an RSOC registrar who valued it at 18k.

Just print off as many similar speced cars from auto trader etc (with a good high price!) and send them in, im sure they'll reconsider but its an annoying pain.

Good luck

Had this twice myself. My bro's FRST they valued at just Ł1100 but after 6 months arguing they paid out double that and repaired it.

When Rachel's XR2i was shunted they offered us a payout of just Ł700 Rachel went mad and said look at all the mods on it and they kindly raised there offer by Ł100 I kicked off and after several weeks of arguing and us threatening to take it up with the insurance ombusman they paid out Ł2500.

Don't let them fob you off with the Glass's guide as it bares virtually no relevance to what the cars actually fetch on the second hand market.

Get as many clippings of similar cars and what they go for and send all these to your insurance co. You may never get exactly what you want but you will be able to get a better deal from them.

Just don't back down, keep offering them as much evidence as you can that your car is worth closer to Ł5000 and that's the minimum you'll accept. Can be surprising how they change their tune sometimes!!

tbh , you'd be lucky if they repaired it
they draw the financial line at approximately half to three quarters of the cars value .
as you can see they are available for less than 4k which doesnt bare well im afraid .
the only thing is , if you get up the insurance company's arse by constantly phoning them and sending letters they usually give in

I had a big problem when my Smart got written off.

It was on a 51 plate, right hand drive. And it was one of the first to come ino the country for official sale here.

3 months later I got hit up the back. It was a write off, fair enough. But they offered me 4k for my near 8k car. I had to accept it as I had no evidence of what they sold for secondhand as they weren't available. I didn't have GAP either and had to pay just over 2k for nothing.

Keep at it and don't let them win!
