Well its not drifting, its just big handbrake turns and liftoff oversteer, but certainly some awesome driving.

I am sorry Chipipedia, I guess the dictionary doesn't apply on this forum...

a. To wander from a set course or point of attention; stray.
b. To vary from or oscillate randomly about a fixed setting, position, or mode of operation.

If you are going by the basic definition of drifting, as opposed to the driving technique, then that guy is a total fucking ametuer compared to some people who reply to threads on here

You are missing the point, Steph deliberately picked the word "drift" to use in a completely incorrect context in terms of driving just so that he could then correct whoever corrected him, by pointing out the dictionary definition.
He knew the moment he posted the thread someone would say it wasnt drifting, which is why he had a quote lined up to post in from a dictionary.

Its how he gets his kicks strangely enough

Oh dear...paranoia at it's best I'm afraid...

I clicked the youtube link on the thread about Kev's escort, saw another cossie clip and watched that, from there I went on to Renault Maxi Turbo's where I came across Jean Ragnotti and the rest, as they say, is history.

Trust Chip to correct me on the term drifting so I looked it up on Google and came across the online dictionary and thought I'd post the definition up.

But really, I think we'd better just focus on the driving.

StephTell was expressing an opinion, to which I agree.

You may come back and say that such and such is better (in their 200SX or whatever), but to say it is not technically drifting a car, I'm astonished.

The "sport" of drifting has been with us for a couple of years or thereabouts, and suddenly the term "drift" can only be used when talking about ricers?

Could you remind us exactly when your sport of drifting started?

Just so we know, at what point we can use, and where we have to stop using, the verb "drift", and not offend you, dude.

So if you get any body roll you're not drifting. Er... ok.

That guy's clearly an awesome driver, regardless of what term you chose to use for how he gets round corners.

deffo, i wouldn't call body roll drifting no! its body roll, not really stearing from the back.

No nor would I call body roll drifting. But you implied that a car that displayed body roll it couldn't be classed as drifting, which is just stupid.

Ive never heard anyone say a front wheel drive car powerslides TBH, thats even more stupid than saying it drifts, which is at least correct in terms of the basic english definition of the word even if not in terms of the normal automotive context.

I still think that provoking controlled lift off oversteer (or tugging the handbrake) in a FWD car can still be classed as drifting. It's not as sexy or as socially acceptable as doing it in a RWD machine, but it's still technically drifting in my book.

"Drifting" was a word used well before cars were invented. I could "Drift" in and out of a crowd. Technically, the video initially posted is drifting. Whether people see it as drifting doesn't matter, because as far as the dictionary goes, it is.
