The E30 is a really nice car, and lets face it, it drives waaaaaaay better than an 80's escort. Both should hold their value the same, so it's entirely up to you. Be helpful to get pics and specs of each of the cars, as if the RST is mint and the E30 is a shed, then it's not going to be a great deal for you

tech1's are usually rusty as fuck. the inner roof is often the worst even if theres only a little bubble showing near the sunroof. the usual inner arches suffer badly as does the scuttle panel under the windscreen . basically check everywhere else.check it is a gennuine sport and not just a 325 with the kit and log book changed.
tech2's are far better looking imo with the chunky kit like my touring.

ok then...more specifically, how much is the rst getting swapped worth?
good tech2 sport seem to go for £4000+ tech 1's are considerably less.

id recommend not buying a sport in the first place, just get a well speced from factory 325i for £1500. my rust free touring cost me £1200 and came with the same engine , bodykit, suspension ,brakes , lsd, electrics etc as a sport and also a wear free leather interior with 80000 miles on the clock. a sport also has a different obc , black headlining on the roof and a close ratio gearbox as the main differences. not really worth the extra £2000+ imo.you pay a premium for the word 'sport' on the log book.
