Default Ever seen a water pump like this+ ideas needed

Got a toyota rav 4 (don't laugh i didn't pay for it) and owner said the water pump has gone, took it apart this morning and fond this, the thing is i dont wanna spend out a water pump and cambelt to get it all fitted and find out its bent the valves as the cam was 1/4 of a turrn out, any ideas???

call the punter and explain the situation

then they can make the decision as to eather or not to get it fixed or not

edited to add:

what's the best case scenario fo the engine and whats the worst case scenario for the engine, that way ther eis at least some osrt of pay scale to offer the bloke

as above, gona need to get the head off to see if/what damage befor you thow parts at it

sorry should of made it clearer dojj, i've bought the car for scrap money got it home and it looked too good to scrap so thought i'd fix it, If i know its got bent valves then i'll scrap it, but i've just had it running on whats left of that water pump and i think its ok, hard to tell with the noise and vibration from the pump and also didn't want to run it for too long like that.

I'll spend the Ł28 on a pump and try it i think, if its ok i'll them get a belt for it too, that way i won't be throwing too much money away if it's scrap.

in that acse it osunds like the ebst option

if it's been running ok with the pump in that state you may have got lucky, but i'd keep the recipt for the pump
