Another thing that stuck out, that rotary powered Mk2! Seemed to go well, not so sure on the noise though!

And yes I agree, I'd love to see Tonys car out and about! Has the engine gone? Sure we've got an engine between us all to go in it!

Was going well generally though, he was getting quicker and quicker, til the diff went pop in 6

Did you come over to us Dan? I was floating about most of the day, didn't realise you were there!

yeah much prefer bda myself ,just nice to see something different
very revvy motor tho the rotary ..... and the aussies seem to like em lol!!

very cost effective compared to the bda only downside is the tips on rotarys need changing every 30,000 miles
very compact motor too

i first saw mike oats at new brighton in a dam4100 if you know your metro onions you would know that dave appelby and the legend tony pond were in partnership doing metro 6r4's,prep and builds of a new shape g reg onwards metro not the earlier type, anyway the shit hit the fan between pondy and appelby and appleby went his own way and them metros were mint in the motoring news tarmac championship.

Oatsy had one from Appleby and i saw him in it there, then he was into subarus like the first one which mcrae famously won the british rally championship in,me and my mates saw that car all over the uk with colin driving and then there it was on the prom with the richest bloke in rallying. Oatsy used to have Prodrive turn up and spanner for him whilst my mates would be graftin from a old tranny he would be in his 150 grand motorhome with the snooker on the telly.
i have spoken with him and tbh he alright to talk too and doesn't treat you like a wally. he used to be in warrington motor club like me but i dunno if he still is now.

yeah think he still has a hand in at warrington ,not sure though
he has been quite a regular at new brighton in various cars with some good success too !!

also remember him in his metro days too have a lot of old pics in the garage lol from new brighton feom the early days lol .....must dig them out and scan em up here

your right about oatsy tho more money than sense ,but still a nice chap who will take the time to chat unlike a lot of them lol

anyone remember the red xr4i thing lol with the v8 in always wondered if that was still knocking about

was a rapid micra there last year too dont laugh sure it had a k series motor in the back ...

all it needed was a granny peering above the wheel and would have been mint lol

my mrs older brother was well into hillman imps (don't fuckin laugh!!) and the man to fettle a imp in cheshire was skip brown, oatsy brother and my mrs brother used to fuck around with the imps. turns out Oatsy is a property magnate who gets told to spend money by his accountant to save tax,so he goes to prodrive and gets a brc winning legacy or impreza gpa or the wrc cars.
funny story andy marchbank was navviying for him and andy cleans oatsy boots getting into the car, then oatsy starts polishing the inside of the car as they are sat waiting to go out. in 1993 i heard from someone at wmc that oatsy spent 150 grand on colins legacy inc a few spares.
150 grand and he does new brighton, and ty croes when ty-croes was a shit hole with barracks everywhere.

Cozzfather is Oatzy the one who had the Ex WRC Subaru's back in 2001-2002 iirc they had brash dots all over it?

Also their are rumours that this could be the last one their due to Morrisons wanting to build on the fields their. Can't see it myself due to it being a flood plain.

hopefully shouldnt interfere with the prom stages tho

and as for the shonky red sierra hahahha am glad its still about as it wasnever very competative but always a crowd pleaser

and cozzfather ,for the record skip was the man for the imps lol like you say /does mainly pug/citroen now tho i think
and them imp motors are ace all steel too !!!
have had skip build a few motors for my pug 205 gti days too

Okay what is happening on the 4th of October then.

Part of the engine is sat in my garage and the rest is with the car. There is a bit of work needed on the liners and then a rebuild of the engine. Im sure we will get around to it one day but you know how busy we all are with working and doing show's.

Saying that would be a great project for your college as it is a really good car and just need's a bit of TLC.

i think the fella with the v8 old sierra is called stant init ??

oatsy did have the jigsaw pattenened wrc imprezas, wheres he gone now?? i know his mrs died and she co drove for him so that must be a big wrench with out her.
last time i saw oatsy at the prom he had bill gwynne looking after the car as bill is a subaru expert too.
i love the prom,i like the fact the rac rally did a stage there,i like it when it pisses down and you get soaked,i like listening to the plazzy scousers going on,i like being able to have a good mooch in the pits and a coffe from the little shop opposite service. i like also how easy it is to get in and then get out back on the motorway.

heard there was a bad smash on saturday at the roundabout ???? anyone here about it ?? was it spectators on the way out ??? wasn't when the rally was going on.

Ahh right 3 sisters, The red sierra driver and owner is Dave Martin, John stant was driving the Cheerios Subaru but he did use to co drive for dave martin.

The sierra has been around forever i remember it being around when Matin Fox came second to Mike Oates Martin was in his home built RWD Fiesta and Oatsey was in his ex Mcrae legacy great day down the prom and a very close finish.

the V8 sierra used to be a guy called dave ???? i used to compete whilst he was out at the likes of ty-croes 1998-2001 iirc.

and the problem with mike oates is, if he aint winning or the weather changes he packs up and takes his toys with him

Was either an Impreza or an Astra going by what a local site says. Was was after the Rally, he hit a kerb and rolled it. Ment to have been quite bad.

K series engine bits.
Unless Tony gets the thicker liners refitted we need a normal block i believe and just standard re assembly parts.
I could be wrong though.

Sounds like a plan to me, Will the escort see the light of day before the year is out or will we have to wait till next year, Will we find an event Tony would like to do as according to him he has retired And will we find all the bit's to bolt back on the car.

I might have to make some room in my garage for the rebuild (GOD HELP ME) but it will be great to see the escort running again as it is really a great car and goes really well with the Tony behind the wheel.

Barry iv got a good space on my nice sturdy work bench with my snap on tools sat beside in my chest ready to do the engine I just need to go on a parts collecting mission
Ask Tony where all the bit's are i think most of the part's are with the car but i have got some of the engine at mine. Tony has got the biased pedal box which also need's putting back on the car.

You never know Tim it might spare him on with getting it going again.

Cozzfather I was wondering if you had any pictures of a white RWD fiesta which Martin Fox Rallied on the prom 2 years running First year looked standard and second year had wide arches on the rear, this is the year it came second to oatsy in the Legacy. Would be good to see the old car as it went to Ireland after Martin sold it to build a Escort Cozzy.
