Default ecu types

I have a hearts & diamonds ecu in my 90 spec escort rs and was wondering what other ones are compatable? So I can do a straight swap with a different type eg coloured ones like the blue red blue.

Whats the difference between the types??

Cheers

I beleive the S2 ones are interchangable but the S1's shouldn't be put in the S2 (Think the S1 ECU's are blue red blue or something)

Oh right so why are there different colours on the S2's? Is there any difference or is it just a date identification thing?

I'm not 100% sure but I beleive the ECU's received some tweeking between the S1 and S2 but I don't have the foggiest idea what the difference is between the S2 variations I know mine is a hearts and diamonds one but beyond that I am stumped!

there are numerous different codes on the ecus... but for the life of me i cant rember what they corespond to.

basically as i remember it....
the S1 ECU has no knock input... (bonus) and has the most ignition mapping points.
very early S2 looms used no knock input as well... however they had fewer mapping points that the S1 ecu.

later and very late 90spec cars had knock sensor input ecu's (which can detect engine noise as knock and hence retard ign) they also have the fewest number of mapping points.
basically if you can get hold of one, you want a series1 ecu as it will work with all looms. and can be made to give the best ignition curve!
