My mums got one (well the Chevrolet version) it's never going to win any awards but it's perfect for her. You can get a newish one really cheaply so it's not a bad option if you're not fussed about what you drive.

A friend of mine got given one needing a new headgasket and radiator, he repaired it for Ł100 and a few hours of his own time, sold it for Ł2000

I had one as I hire car in spain a few years ago, I swear i will never get in one again, it was awfull, we had to turn the AC off to get up some hills on the motorway!!
had a look in the engine bay and the ac compressor was bigger than the bloody tiny 3 pot engine!!

Absolutely appalling heap of junk. Million times better old folk cars out there.

1.0 Nissan Micra would be a decent shout. Nothing wrong with them at all.

i dont think they like headgaskets much; i've seen 3 quite low mileage ones needing a new headgasket

the good think is you can get the head off in about 20 minutes

I know someone who had one of the earlier models. Hit a stationary car at about 50mph and walked away without a mark.

I was quite impressed by that to be honest!

the reason they do good money second hand even if they are shit condition is because of the most important thing a new young motorsist requires.... cheep insurance.
they are 800cc of cheepo to run car and only learning and knocking about is what there good for, school, shops, church, post office etc big no no on motorways as they run out of puff.

Had one as a courtesy car for a week once, obscure as it sounds it made me think of a Microwave i could drive, VERY plasticy, the air was always hot and it handled like a tray on marbles. Fine for Granny needs i suppose.

i actually like them and i'll tell you why they can be crap on jungle juice.

basically if you use them for proper road motoring and not knocking about so say dual carrige ways or motorways you have to rev them and drive them hard and the economy suffers. overtaking on the motorway is difficult when your 3 pot wonder is screaming its tits off and some sweaty rep in a worthless mondeo is a rolling paper off your bumper.

that is why

The important thing to remember is that we're all 'car people'. If you know sod all about cars and care not for performance they're perfectly fine.
