Default Trade Plates. Is This A Bit Naughty?

Just curious really, but there's a chap round by me who I sometimes see driving round in a rather nice looking Porsche 964, which makes a right racket even when it's going really slowly, and has a badge on the back which says "Ramus 500". And the reg plate is "911 TT". So thought I'd do a check on it just to see what it came up as, being curious again, and it didn't come up on any checks apart from the insurance database, where it just came up as "Trade Plate".

Now, the plates on the car are just your normal standard white at the front, yellow at the rear. Is that not a bit naughty to be driving a car round on trade plates dressed up as normal reg plates. Or is that ok?

Just wondering, as I always assumed it was just a private reg before, and thought it must be worth a tidy sum.

All the info you could ever hope for on trade plates is supposed to be here:
http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg...mId=1081975206

But the download isn't working at the moment. Give it a try tomorrow.

One thing I'm pretty sure of is that trade plates have to be red on white to be valid.
