hi all, i have a mk3 escort its only got a 1.3 cvh engine in it! the other day went for a drive an every time i come up to some traffic lights it cuts out,but starts back up fine,i got it back home ad a look when the choke is on it runs fine but as soon as choke off it cuts out,ive tryed new carbs but still the same! any ideas wot it could be? ive bin told it could be the pump but petrol is cuming out pipe sound! any help would be great thanks

 

sounds like you might have a leaking inlet manifold gasket or carb gasket making it lean. Or the carb needs richening up slightly, hence why it runs better on choke.

 

it also dosent have a air filter on it cud this be the problem? i have bin driving it 4 a couple of months without 1 and as bin fine!

 

You may have a bloked idle jet on the carb especially if you havnt been using an air filter, you can see them when you look into the car normally, little brass looking screw, take them out and clean them through, may help.

 

ok thanks people ill have a look,fittin a 1.8 zetec soon but just need the cvh to run for a while to get to places because the turbo cab is off the road aswel lol.

 

fixed it now just put a k&n filter on it an seems ok
