The writing (text) is relativly easy the graphics which make up a good site take hours and hours. Hosting can be done from your free webspace provided from your ISP, domain name's from £2 per year and if you want to do online payments your looking at £20 per month unless you use the other options such as paypal etc.

Depends on scale and your budget really. If you have the money anything is possible. The HTML as NutsRS says is easy enough and can be done in notepad and saved as a .html file which enables you to view it in Internet Explorer.

My company I used to work for charge around 1500pounds but that is custom built to your spec and is fully maintainable by yourself using a log in area. You would need to provide the pics but nothing that a normal digital camera cannot already do. The hosting with them was about 150pounds per year. Extra up front cost for checkouts etc.

If you buy your own domain name you will pay for that which you effectively lease for anything around 20quid per year. Then find someone to host it and if you use a specialist programming language such as ColdFusion like ours did, you will need a host with that on their server.

I can send you some more details through if interested of whats involved if you are interested? PM me if so.

Money and shopping around for the best deal are the key and in reaching those decisions you need to take into account what your aim as a business is to achieve from a web perspective.

I've done it with www.105speed.com using a utility called Active Web Publisher from a company called Linkmore Systems Ltd (www.linkmore.co.uk)

Its billed at £250+VAT per quarter which includes the initial professional design, all the hosting charges etc (minimum signup 1 year)

Other users include www.sccperformance.com, www.northamptonmotorsport.com & www.ridon-joinery.co.uk (JasonP's Family business)

The key thing with this set up is YOU control the content, you can add pages, remove pages whenever you like, there is no charge for that, no waiting for someone else to do it for you.

Its as easy to use as Word, I think Jason has done a superb job with the Ridon site.

You can make it as big as you like or as small as you like.

Depending on what you are selling I've found most people are happy to send you a cheque these days, partly because that how they trade on e-bay and partly because of the fear of credit card fraud.

Those who dont want to do that then take PayPal until your turnover warrants having your own credit card machine.

I've found with 105Speed that it is still possible for an individual to set up an internet business on there own, it isnt just for the huge corporations.

But remember, just having a website isnt going to get loads of people to suddenly come and spend money with you, you will still have to do loads of traditional marketing to get the name around.

It will also take a while for your to work your way up the search engine rankings and there is no fast track for that either despite what people will tell you it just takes time.

Hope that helps

Good Luck !!
