Default E30/36 M60 V8 Engine Swaps

I have done a search on Google and can't find any decent build threads or similar.

I have got a hold of a 1993 530i V8 and fancy flinging the engine in something, only bastard is the Auto on the back of it.......

So come on PassionBMW help me out.

That'll be an M60B30, so check the serial number to find out for definite, but it's likely to be Nikasil

1 725 970 - Nikasil
1 741 212 - Nikasil
1 745 871 - Alusil

I have no fooking idea.

I bought it stupidly cheap as it has been hit on passenger side, was just going to break it but then thought about throwing engine in something.

check the engine codes above, if it is one of the Nikasil engines it would be worth whipping the heads off to check the bores, before doing anything

Trouble is, they make less WAY power than an E36 M3 (only 218bhp vs 321 for a 3.2 M3), so although its very cool, its also a bit pointless when those are so cheap now and come complete with nice interior, decent handling and reasonable brakes, not to mention good looks.

I am not in Uk though Chip, cheapest M3 here is around $15,000. I paid less than $1000 for the E34 with a lovely set of wheels that should sell for almost $1000 and I could maybe get an E30 or 36 for around $1500-2000 so WAY of the money of an M3.

the E36 Alpina B8 has an engine that is a mix of parts from the m60/m62, so engine mounts and sump from that would be ideal

oh and this is a Alpina B8

I happen to have a few turbos sitting in the shed haha. E36 might be a better conversion I think, should fit better than E30.

Yep Alpina bits would work, but no fucking way I will find them in NZ, so probably be home made stuff.

At least if you get the BMW EPC you can see what they look like, to give you a head start on making them

have a look on here barry gti http://v8.webkitchen.net/other.html

it would appear you should be able to buy what you need to mount the lump in, the e46 is very simillar to the e36 around the chassis legs and 'k' frame

is it the m30 engine? if it is its not worth the hassle for the 3.0. the 3.5 is the one that people use.
