Default money-people thoughts

Would people think that if you were to have just under of 1/3 of the total income left to yourselfs per month that ok??

Reason is im restructuring the households finances whilst im on holiday and the best i can do is be £25 better off than last month, but the gives me and my wife just under a 1/3 of our wages left, thats after all bills and food, so purley "fritter" money.

people discuss?

Hmm depends how much you get in the first place, for example it you had 3k a month, 2k on bills then 1k should easily be enough left over to do what you like. Just an example but I dont see that as less than excessive precentage, if anything it's too much to have left over, you could spend £125 a week and save the rest.

After all the bills, except car tax, insurance etc i have about 1/10th of wages spare every month.

I would be well happy having 1/3rd spare

ok it actually works out, out of £2500 there is £1650 worth of bills and food etc, so leaving us £850 "fritter" money per month.

Now ive written it out it seems that were pretty well off by acounts.

after being screwed wage wise at work and being nocked for nearly a 1/4 of it per month, i'd fucking love to have 1/3'rd of my wages left. i'll be lucky if i'm taking 900 quid home a month now, so to still have 300 would be awesome. As it stands, i got paid friday and the only dollar left in my account is the 130 quid car insurances money ( i have 2 policies )

I need to get a new job - or retrain into something else - anyone got any office jobs going? i have nvq's in admin !!

I think that is an acceptable situation to be in.

Currently im the other way around, I have incomings of over 5K after tax and fixed outgoings of less than 2K, but once I drop back down to my normal wages, it wont be much better than a 1/3rd for me either as i'll be back to clearing only about 3500 a month most months and will still have 2K or so in outgoings.

That seems pretty acceptable, i have about 1/2 my wage left over, I've no idea what i do with it every month though, i don't seem to buy THAT many bits off ebay , but i usually end up at zero every month end. If i could give up on nights out i'd have stacks of cash.

Sorry mate, didnt mean it to sound like that, my outgoings are higher than yours in the first place, rent in london is horrific and the rent on my place I rent out in somerset is far less etc.
Its just "only" relative to the fact im earning a lot more currently, previously Ive earned both as much as (pretax) 10K a month and as little as (pretax) 1500 a month, so I know what its like at both ends of the scale.

lol if you think that 1500 a month could be classed as 'as little as' then you should adjust your scales 1500 a month would be fucking awesome in southend

what is it you actually do ?

18K a year (1500 a month) is WELL below an average wage.

Im a technology consultant to toyota most of the time, mainly its computer programming, although at the moment im on loan to shell and doing a lot more hours than normal (my wages are normally based on 4 short days a week and im now doing 5 long days a week) so am getting paid overtime.

That income also includes some other work I do as well though, which is motoring journalism, although thats only a very small part of my income as its just a hobby job really.

If you are fairly money motivated then yes mate you definately do need a new job.

Personally I gave up over 20K a year from my wages a couple of years ago to change job to my current role as I preferred the job to my previous one and the hours suited me better, so I dont think job choice should only be about cash personally.

Agreed, Until you can fuck off to monaco for a fortnight for the grand prix and not even consider the 10K a night cost for a decent hotel, or buy a couple of million quid yacht without flinching I really dont think phrases like "fucking awesome" come into it with wages!

Off topic, do you know "city girl" from the london paper who revealed herself yesterday?

365 quid an hour at 25 years of age, plus a decent bonus system, thats pretty good going IMHO, and she was pretty fit too!

Agreed, but to be fair, I don't think they were knocking the fella. If he said £1500 would be nice, that's great, but I think saying it's "fucking awesome" is showing a lack of ambition, and to achieve one's potential, that's the wrong attitude to have!

Why do people say this??

I currently have in reality over 3/4 of my wages a months as pocket money, or put aside money if not 90%, and l consider that l have worked smartly to get my self in a position where this is the case, who should l be grateful to ?? myself for all the hard work and long hours l have done to get where l am??
