Default I have a misfire :( BMW people look :) Diagnosis Good or Bad??? Please See inside

My 325 E36 has started to miss fire and dont know what to check first.....

In the morning it is fine but once i get 5 minutes down the road it does it every now and then but after 10 minutes it does it all the time.

I have looked and it has coil packs so i am guessing i will need to look at them first....can i check which one is busted or do i have to change them all??? Assuming that it is them

All replies and ideas welcome

Check the coil rubbers. Also, swap the coils round to see if the misfire swaps cylinders.

as already said; check the individual coil packs; another thing is to check the condition of all the plugs, you might find one is duff

a decent garage with diagnosis machine will be able to tell you what it is

depends if genuine BMW parts or not as you can get coils for about Ł30 from ECP and fit yourself.

i wouldnt buy genuine BMW coil packs on a car as old as a e36 325i

buy pattern parts from somone like http://www.camberleyautofactors.com/...t/view/75/125/

then fit yourself - they are easy to fit

Ł250 seems alot even if genuine parts are used

You can get a couple of oe quality coils from ECP far cheaper than that, and easy peasy to fit.

From bmw the coils are Ł50.87 + vat each part number 12 13 9 066 468
for the 6 its 305.22 + vat Ł92 + vat to diagnose & fit so he is charging you more than bmw would to replace 2 coils.BMW dealership would be 222.81 inc vat fitted. With 2 year warranty on parts.

Wouldnt bother with the plugs unless they are due changed service wise!
as for changing all the coils if they are made by bremi your advised to replace all of them if they are made by bosh or any other make replace the offending ones.
Reason being once one bremi coil goes the rest usually follow suit

it's easy enough to figure out which ones are busted mate

just unplug one and start the engine, you'll soon know and you change that one
and the same for the others

Dan,

I'm sure that a man high up the ladder at ECP can get a good deal on all 6 coil packs!!!!!! Whilst you are there do the plugs as well saves being charged to replace them at service time
