Default cozzy with high miles??

had a look at a saph cozzy 4x4 the other day that iam thinkin of buying. was well impressed with the condition and stuff and only needs a few little problems to be mint but what is starting to put me off is the engine. its got 130000 odd miles on it without a rebuild.
its running stage3 greens ect and is boosting to around 20psi i think. i drove the car and it was a bit tappety but drove great with no knocks or smoke.
should i be expecting a rebuild soon if i buy it? or do cozzys do big miles when setup right.

in fairness mate there pretty robust engines, if it is standard then its possible it may be alright for years but id say it would have lost some bhp and be well worn in those miles, id expect to have too rebuild it at some point. however if it is well modified then it must have been rebuilt at some point during the miles.. hope this helps

the tapping wasnt really that bad i mean iam used to rattly pintos in mk2s so it sounded ok. the lad who has the car fitted the greens and msd chip and stuff so it may have been standard for alot of them miles. its had a headgasket done around 2 yr ago apparently.

I had a 4x4 Cos that I got from my father and he finally blew the engine after 148000 miles and the only engine work it had had done before that was a head rebuild after about 140000 miles.

Proof that in standard form they are just as good as any other car.

I personally wouldn't buy it if you are not 100% happy with it though.

My saph 4x4 has done about 126k without the bottom end being touched. Head has been rebuilt, ported and polished and the turbo replaced but the bottom end is still going strong!

It's running with a T38, grey injectors and about 30 psi of boost and gets a hard time everytime I drive it! LOL!

The rattling could possibly be just a slightly worn set of tappets which is understandable after that many miles.

At the endof the day, you just have to use a bit of common sense when buying a high miler. If it doesn't smoke, knock, rattle and everything seems in order then there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

thanks for the advice . the car itself is exactly what am after and the only problem i have with it is the milage but if it had had a rebuilt it would probs be alot more money than it is at the mo.

Shell condition is far more important with these surely-a rebuild is something you can control the quality of and have it done as good if not better than standard. Whereas a patched up shell will never be as good as a solid shell.

Fuck it tho these cars don't make sense financially anyway so just buy one and enjoy it for what it is

My previous Cossie was on 123k or thereabouts and was running T34, 32psi spike (24 to the red line) and had only had a GrpA head gasket and a set of tapets No smoke or nasty noises, a bit of tappet rumble on cold start but other than that it absolutely LOVED a good hiding

If its only tappin Bazz as said could just be tappets, if there is no knocks and it aint smoking got to be worth a punt mate, looks a nice car from what i seen of it the other night mate, obviously never seen it underneath but paintwork looked good and i know it has been painted lol which might explain it.
