the only course of action would seem to be knocking on his door and seeing how it plays out but you recover the car, you cant drive it home with no t+t or he might phone the police.

First of all contact the police and let them know the situation, and also say you will be visiting his premises on such and such a date, and you fear there will be violence, and ask them to escort you there.
I had a VERY similar situation but with some stereo gear, The dude never gave me the money, so i called the police and explained, they met me at the house, and the bloke had no choice but to hand it all back to me!

I read it lol, but my accountant was in a similar situation.
She had possession of the car, had the log book and keys BUT had been bought the car as a present. Then her now ex decided he wanted it back.
She called the police and they suggested changing the locks on the car as he had a set also.
They seemed to suggest possession was a big part and if he got it back she may loose it.

Its obviously the principle of the thing bugging you because the hassle involved in getting that car back , with its value, wouldn't make sense. How much does he owe you?
I'd destroy the fuckin thing in his garden and move on

i know someone that was in the same boat Sean and the rozzers said its a civil matter and theres sod all we can do, if it was round your gaff and he swiped it thats a differant matter but as your only problem is no loot comming your way its not really a robbed car your dealing with.
best of luck getting sorted,i'm still 500 quid down after borrowing a skint mate a grand to help pay his mortgage, the fuckers going on holiday and bought a new van yet i'm a monkey out still and its annoying the fuck out of me.

a v5 is not proof of ownership.

But surly that dont mean shit? If party a sells a car to party b, party a should give receipt to party b. If not and party a has his original receipt from original purchase then party a could arse rape party b and take car as registered keeper b hasnt got a receipt of sale. But if party b has a receipt off party a then nothing can be done? i think? So did you give your mate a receipt of sale is the question?

Have you got proof that he agreed to pay monthly / by June, if so then you could always visit a solicitor and get them to write a letter explaining that court proceedings will go ahead if he dont pay. Sounds a bit by the book but once you can proove that he has received the letter, if he still doesnt cough up the Police might be interested.
On another note how can you legally proove the car belongs to someone. In short im buying a car for the missus (Fiesta ST), i'll have the car in my name but she'll insure it in hers. If we were to split up and if she were to get arsey how can i claim the car belongs to me legally?

Police have no powers to get involved unless a crime has been commited, Maria's stereo is slightly different as he paid no money, so the proof of theft was there which in law is to "permanently deprive", owner of something in this case car, but as he has paid some it becomes a civil matter for the courts, if he'd paid no money you'd be a lot better off with plod.

If you turn up at his house and either damage it or take it back I'm sure the Police would get involved It sucks but if you are in the area I'd turn up at his door and see how it goes, take a mate & a tow rope with you if you can
