Default Cleland ex BTCC Cavalier on the rollers

We were at Frosts Ipswich Monday evening when this turned up to use the rollers, just had a bare shell rebuild and engine rebuild ready for Silverstone Classics at the weekend, I think a guy was going to map it but the software wasn't working or something (we left at 9pm) (I think Demon Tweekes had this before the current owner?)
pics and videos by Benc30 reproduced without permission )

(ignore the AFR reading) allegedly running 280bhp before the rebuild

I'm not a vauxhall guy, but used to love seeing these bouncing over the rumble strips on two wheels... from a time where Touring Cars were awesome IMO.

Cheers,

Cool car. Would the original engine of had a reversed head? Inlet nearest the grill and exhaust nearest the bulkhead?

Lovely to see old race cars still around.

That's John Cleland's 1992 Car

His team-mate that year (and until 1994) was Jeff Allam

Some of the cav's were on a reverse head, and some of them were on a normal head, so it depends on which car it is wether thats the correct way around or not.

The blue white striped car in the background is actually an MGF which competes in the MG Championship, Frost is currently working on this though

Jim Pocklingtons 1990 Dave Cook Cavalier , its chassis No.1 !
The reverse head engines didn't come about until 1994 , jims car even has a six speed H pattern Dog box , sequential boxes were still new fangled thingies back then !
Hes done a loving restoration on this car and races it hard, last seen on its side in the gravel at Lydden , iirc i was just behind him .
The David Leslie Memorial trophy is being held Saturday and sunday at Silverstone and promises to be a great event alongside all the ohter classic races .

edit, it was a replica of the Rydell car not Lammers

No it wasn't. Not the estate. It squeezed into the points a couple of times, much like what the Focus is doing at the moment.

Hi Cabrio and all,

I drove an ex-Cleland reverse head cavalier at Bathurst in 1999 with the owner Mike Newton, they are very fast through corner's but difficult to drive in the wet as the engine's had a tendency to stall if you locked the wheel's under braking, then you crash.
