i had this with a 42inch plasma, i cuta sqear out the plaster board, then bolted 2x4 to the wall the plaster board back on and bolt braket to the 2x4, i used 20 8inch screws for each price of 2x4 (used 4 bits), it held my wieght befor i put telly up, still up now (and i have stood up in to it and aint moved, hert me thow lol)

 

In my kitchen i used big butterfly bolts for hanging my 32" lcd. I use a bracket that has 18" ish extension from the wall so i can adjust the angle etc. THought it was all good until one day i walked past the tv and thought i heard mice behind the walls. Stopped and listened and spotted the plaster bulging. It was pulling itself out i had to grab the tv and shou on the wife to get tools to remove the tv from the bracket

Ended up mounting a piece of wood on top of the plaster and screwing the bracket to that. Looks crap but havent got round to finding a better solution yet

 

not that i'm doubting you mate, the bracket is only held onto the telly by 2 big metal hools that were screwed in using 6 x 20mm x M6 bolts

but it's the thought of it being there for as long as it's going to be there and it will never ever fall out of the wall that gives everyone the reassurance and peice of mind that it's a job done once, but done properly

if there were loads of little screws holding it in place i'd be for ever worrying about it falling off the wall

 

Indeed - In practice I would normally put in between 4 and 8 M8 or M10 bolts, dependent on design of bracket. Obviously there's no point using M6 bolts in 10mm holes even if you only want to hold up 20kg!

Well its up on the wall, I bought a VESA mount from ebay, and it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be!

I found the studs in the wall behind, and screwed into them. I hung off it for a while and its definately not going anywhere!

looks nice though NOW you have the same problem as the rest of us,,,,,,, where can you put the dvd/sky box due to the stupid fucking 1 metre lengths of cables

i had to buy longer cables and have them located on the side of the TV,,, IMO it looks shite to want another solution that can hide the dvd/playstation blah blah blah and keep the room simple and tidy with no wires hanging about

 

I know what you mean, I'm going to make a cabinet to bolt to the wall underneath the telly. The wiring will be run behind the wall so hopefully I wont see a single wire!

It isn't ideal as I would like them gone however that isn't possible!!

 

they put a 3 inch drain pipe behind the telly to un all the wires

then they plastered the plug so yuo can see that

i'll get some pics up later tonight

 

Luckily all my walls are plasterboard cavity walls so running wires are easy peasy

Wow Rich that bracket does not take many screws? Mine has about eight to hold it to the wall! Hope it is ok for you though. I should get a pic of mine up too.

 

I was dubious but I followed the instructions with the kit! It was 4 quite hefty screws that screw in with a 13mm spanner.

I hung off it for a while (i'm 100kg heavier than my telly) and it didn't budge at all!

covered the cables with some conduit, if they were buried in the wall, its sods law i would have to change or replace a cable

I was the same when my TV was on the wall i was scared to take my hands away just incase lol. Will try get my pics up of my phone but i have left the leads up my old dears.

 

I'm unsure on this.

The Tv's look a bit better on the wall, but all the stands look worse.

Just for future reference for anyone, i had the same problem mounting to plasterboard dot and dab walls, i used these rigifix bolts available from here:

Basically, these have a plastic insert that goes into the wall after drilling, then a metal screw that goes into the plastic bit (screw in by allen key) then another screw that holds the bracket up by screwing into the allen bit that is already in the wall.

Not very good at explaining but believe me, use 6 of these and the bloody thing ain't moving!

Nice that, don't you get neck/eye ache? I had to move mine down a bit, it was only 6 inches or so higher than when it was on the stand, but it didnt half make my eyes ache!

I did that and have eight feeds going to various rooms thru an rf amp.magic eye them at tv about the size of a half squash ball to operate.

the builder put it there and it was all done by the time i got home

i wanted him to run 2 pipes round the back as well but he only put in one, still, it's enough for the small ammount of wires i need and big enough to fit 2 3 pin plugs and 2 big scart cables through the hale as well as the optic for the sound and the hdmi for the telly which is all that's needed, but i wanted to run the power and signal cables seperatly just because i could do amd left the pulg down the bottom

unfortunatly, that plug is spured from the upstairs ring and seeing as there is no other plug anywhere near the vicinity and the cable would have meant uprooting the carpets upstairs and down the mrs said just use the safest amount of cable and put the plugs behind the telly

and that's wher it's worked out

all i'm going to do is put one of them surrounds around it to cover it up and it should all look great

 

Not at all mate. I have it on a tilting bracket so the top is angled downwards. I was a bit concerned about looking up when it went there, but she wanted to keep the fire (grrrr!)

That will do the job for a 50" with some rawl bolts won't it? I'm going to use trunking to hide the cables, it's the best solution I can think of

That one is better to be honest, I didn't want one that moves. I guess you screw half of it to the wall, the other half to the TV and hang it from the bracket? Trunking is for sissys :P Hire a wall chaser, or get a grinder, cut two 1" deep channels and inch apart, stick the cables in, shove some one-coat or finishing plaster over the top and you'll have a much smarter looking install

 

are you suggesting plastering directly onto the cables laid in the channel you've chased out?

Yes thats right, one bit attaches to the wall, one bit to the telly, then they just hook together and tighten a couple of screws down to make sure it isn't going to come off again.
