Love my job, and since i've been in Dubai I have turned into a work-a-holic. Things are going very well work wise, just a shame some things have suffered along the way. That's life though I guess.

Go for it Carlo one of my mates worked for parts at the local vw garage untill they started to take the piss. Two years ago he moved to Partco as a assistant manager and has just been promoted and given his own bigger store to manage at Dundee.
I like my job but hate being away from home for 3 weeks at a time , just glad i dont have kids yet or it would be worse. Wage wise last year they were throwing bonuses at us for anything so ended up making £86K this year we dont know if we will have a job in six months

one question, I earn over 35k and I cannot afford a fucking cosworth.
I don't how you do it.
I work in I.T. but I am very specialised, but the work can be running arround like a cunt it doing fuck all for a bit.

im happy enough, a decent enough wage although i could always do with more and im in charge on the site for the company i work for so i decide what i do and what gets delegated to someone else. the director offered me a rise last week though so ill see what happens there.all in all not bad really in the current climate and the 2 directors are decent enough to work for.

I work for a company that makes cardboard boxes.. ! i'm their forklift driver / storeman / chauffer / tea slave / general bitch at the moment. The wages are a crappy £325(inc o/t ) pw. The job in itself is great - i'm left to run 2 stores on my own, the downside is, the wages are wank, my supervisor is a royal prick who couldn't run a bath let alone a fuckin warehouse and... to top it all off, they won't supply me with a company motor - so it's my own car that keeps me going to both stores running back and forth during the day.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
I worked in IT in Scotland for 6 years and barely worked 4 hours a day from home(many days were 2 hours or less), I had company car, free personal fuel, phone, laptop, broadband etc etc etc. Was earning about 25-30k a year and ABUSED the free fuel bit, but I HATED the fucking job. Couldn't get motivated to do 3 hours of it a day for fuck sake.
I am now a Mechanic in New Zealand, work at Audi/VW/Porsche Dealer and I love my work, don't get me wrong I don't love all the people but the actual work is great. Sure you get a job that's a cunt now and then but all jobs are like that. I work 8.5 hours a day now and have no issue leaving the house. I also earn about 2/3 of what I used to and no benefits but much happier in life, though will be even happier in Aussie doing it.
If you hate it mate it's time for a change, nothing you have always wanted to do? Go work in Andy's garage?
Edit to say: I am just off to work, it's 7:09am and I have a V10 enine to take out of a Touareg

would love a job ;ike yours dave-knocking stuff down, how cool.
i used to really enjoy my job-self emplyed car sales.loved the buzz of buying/selling/cleaning/repairing cars but was never greedy and always happy to just be able to afford to live...
things are a bit tighter now, some months not covering outgoings etc and its more of a drain now than enjoyment.would seriosly consider taking a job if offered one but its not going to happen in the current climate.
so ill just keep plodding.....

As above really im so pissed off coming here now i hate geting out of bed in the morning different if i was getting a decent wage.I work as a warranty clerk for a bmw & mini dealership i claim nearly 1 & 3 quarter million worth of repairs per year i was off on the sick for 7 weeks & came back to a complete mess & because the jobs wernt closed properly ppl didnt make bonus. All this for 17k a year including bonus what made it worse is reading the post about some of the wages you guys are on im on pennys.
Trouble is i have no idea what i want to do next i would be driving a parts delivery van with less hastle for the same money im getting in here.
Anyone else in the same situation ? i work monday to froday 8.30 - 5.30 & every 2nd sat half day

needless to say, there have been some changes in my access levels to certain departments which will severely limit my job role, so i'm just going to do what is expected of me, even though i was off for one day and the shit really hit the fan
opps, another post i won't be sneeking a peek at at work

fairly pissed off with my job, at the moment. the work isn't so much of a problem, its just dealing with a piss poor manager, that would rather shop on the internet of have people coo-ing over pictures of her kids.
of well, my application is with the hands of RAF Cranwell, hopefully something is new around the corner...

The job I do is interesting in IT, we get to play with all sorts of stuff. Being only 3 of us and being asked to cover everything from servers to desktops and all the stuff in between (Email, ISA, Backups etc) means my day is varied. I work in the Middle East, at current rates, I earn 54K a year tax free, my house is paid for by the company and my outgoings are fuck all. I have it pretty good.
BUT, I've quit after less than a year to come home to a job with more pressure, less variety, half the money and tax.
WHY
Because there is more to life than money. I miss my wife, family and friends. Fuck anyone who says you can enjoy life later. Enjoy it now, tomorrow some twat in a Cossie could knock me down
Bet I'll hate the job too!!

it must be something to do with bmw/mini dealers. i worked in 1 for 2 years as a valeter b4 the job im in now.i had worked as a valeter for 13 yrs by the time i left and i used to really enjoy my job till i worked there.
the place was badly managed and they didnt care how the staff felt and you were basically told if you werent happy then you knew where the door was so i did and best thing i ever did,got a job with dingbro picking big stock orders of car parts, get crackin discount on my bits and im making very nearly double what i used to doing the same or sometimes less hours....
best advice i could give you is time to move on

Ahhh that explains how you built your pizza hut soo easily lol
Good to hear you are doing well chum, i work with builders/sparks/plumbers quite often and some of them are getting it tough, a few on the other hand have loads of work. Suppose one thing about the recession is its making the good guys stand out from the cowboys...

I also think though you may be mixing me up with someone else? Just with a few things youve typed?

i remember my first job, fully paid up and on the books
i earnt £14 for 16 hours staking shelves in a warehouse and was damn gratefull for it
but then i only lasted anohter saturday before i was dismised
and then i worked a 7 day week, 12 hours a day and would get paid £30 or £40 a week
sometimes, you just have to take whatever you can get to earn some money

I'm an accountant, work in the public sector (Local Authority) and I really do enjoy what I do. I've worked for the same Council since I was 17 and I started in the post room lol but ended up in Finance and I'm now qualified CIPFA. I didn't have a clue what I wanted to do when I left school and I guess I was just lucky that I got a foot in the door when I applied for a job at the council I work for.
I've worked really hard to get to the position where I am now, I failed my finals 3 times (and put Scott through sheer hell when I was doing them) but I kept at it and finally got through them.
I didn't really choose my career path, I kind of just fell into it and was in the right place at the right time

I'm pretty happy in my job. Really enjoy it in fact. I'd say 9 out of 10.
I was earning nearly 28k but now i'm on minimum wage as of next month! I'll still be happy in my job and hopefully we'll stay pretty busy enough.

fairly happy in my job love the people i work with genrally have a good laugh and lots of banter and can do the same with the customers, but likewise some days its a nightmare and you can get really shitty customers, i work in a hotel bar have done for nearly 4 years as i started part time when i started university i now have a degree in business and management and a part time job i still dont have any contracted hours each week i know i will have to leave soon in order to afford to have my own place and a decent lifestyle... also the hours are pretty bad due to the face you dont have a set finishing time so you can start at 3, 4 or 5 in the afternoon and finish at 11 onwards, the latest we closed the bar is 7am, around 2 or 3 being average...

TBH i feel like shit, i work 3 nights a week part time in a garage. I'm a qualified Mechanical Engineer which to find enployment round here is hard.
If i could find a 40+ hr job around here i would be like a rat up a drain pipe. I need some motivation to get me out this rut.

I hate the job im in, I actually feel sick at the thought of going every evening.
I work for a parcel delivery company and have done pretty much every role there bar manager positions, i like to learn new roles but soon get bored once i have it sussed, am currently driving the shunter trucks moving the trailers in the yard and the lads are sound but there is no satisfaction and no end product just the same thing day after day.
Wages wise I get about £24k for 35hrs a week basic but normally have to do conpulsery overtime of about 2.5hrs a week.
Would love to leave but there are a few things going on at the moment also I have no idea what i want to do.

I'm fairly happy in my job - £25k for computer programming/live support. Currently work my five days in four (i.e. 37hrs over Mon-Thurs) so I can look after the kids on Friday so that's good. I can work flexi, get 30 days holiday a year, only 30 mins commute, nice aircon office and a great bunch of people to work with.
The major issue I have though is that I'm FUCKING BORED! I can do this job with my eyes closed in half the time it takes other people to do the same thing, so I'm always running out of work and management are inept at keeping the "pipeline" flowing, even though they know how fast I work and I'm always requesting more work. This means it's sometimes hard to keep the motivation going.
I'd be quite happy to take a fairly substantial pay cut just to do something more challenging! I've signed up to the local college "automotive control systems" course in September in a bid to give me an opportunity for a complete industry change.
