Default Mondeo door locking problem......

The passenger door wont lock with the central locking......

BUT

If you are sat in the car and push the passenger handle in as if you was locking it from the inside....it will lock all the doors.

Any ideas

So it doesn't lock with rest, but by locking it manually it triggers the rest to lock, yeah? Sounds like the actuator for that lock then to me.

mine does something similar to this.. you can't use the central locking with the key in the passenger side door - but if you press the interior handle in - the hole lot locks up. I just put it down to being a pile of crap poverty spec M-reg 1.shit mk1 mondeo

Common problem as the central locking motor packs in. Wont lock when the central locking works and the system senses a fault and reopens all the doors. As it doesnt use the motor when manual locking it locks all the other doors.

Can sometimes be fixed with WD40 but more often than not a replacement unit is required.

As bookwise says the door lock solenoids pack up, I've had a rear door and drivers door go on my ST24, the WD40 may work but then only temporarily. Ford's want about Ł70 for one, but 2nd hand you can get them for Ł10-Ł20.

Not the cheapest, especially as they get more 'miley'. If you can stretch to an. ST200 it's worth the extra. Neither are particularly good on juice though. You'll be lucky to see 30mpg. Still, good underrated cars though, and a lot of car for the money, especially if you get one that's been looked after.

But back on topic - mines had both red motors replaced, about a tenner on eBay, and an easy swap.

Mk1 Stu just to answer your question although off topic, fairly straight forward service, one annoyance is oil is 6 litres so normal 4.5 litre can never enough, I moaned at Castrol but heyho. The spark plugs last 60,000 miles. Chain driven so no cambelt. The heads can coke up so worth cleaning them every few years. They are thirsty, but you don't buy a 2.5 V6 for its fuel economy.
Very good cars though and you get alot for your money.
