Default How to TIG weld Ally?

Right i have a Aristotig TIG welding plant and i'm well experienced in welding steel and stainless steel.

I can weld stainless to a very high standard and know how to purge, pulse etc etc with my welding plant.

But i've never done any work with Ally nor have i ever been tought.

Can someone tell me what i need and how to do it.

I also have a large bottle of pure shield argon.

I think my welding plant is a DC set but i believe i need an AC set??
Does this mean my welding plant can't do ally?

Cheers for any help.

Matt.

Thanks for breaking the bad news

I have a MIG as well but thats too messy for me.

Will just get a local shop to carry out the work (some new brackets on my GRS I/C).

Thanks again

not a simple question then!

Whats good to look for if you were buying a cheap (say 500-1000)? Self start?

If you’re getting an AC/DC welder, make sure you’ve got high frequency, other wise you’ll have to scratch start, which will be messy with aluminium welding. You can purge weld stainless steel, I do this to USDA American standards, but with aluminium welding you can’t purge. If you’re worried about not getting enough or too much penetration then use a backing bar made from stainless steel or brass.
