put one on mine just incase. about £25.. stops any unwanted deposits but then most people change there oil filter more than needed anyway. if its an unknown engine thats had a hard life then putting on a new turbo id get one, if its a clean well looked after engine then its just an option of choice, nothing wrong having that bit of extra protection esp buying a new turbo.!

A sump bung won't stop oil carrying crap, well usually carbon to the turbo though.
Another reason why I use flush before every oil change, keeps things all uncarbony.
You can magnetise a std sump bung with a bit of wire and a battery.

Why would you need one the oil is pre filtered by the oil filter which filters down to Microns rather better Than a piece of mesh in a can.

It will stop the small metal fileings getting carried round the engine though.

The filings from the rings and cams which are mineeeute will get picked up by the oil filter
Far quicker than a 20 mm long by 5mm thick magnet as not all the 5 ltrs of oil go directly over the magnet , but it does go through the filter quite often
The only way debri can get into the engine and bearings is when you change your oil and contminate the filter while your scrabbling around to fit it.

best answer on here, the oil filter has smaller holes than the turbo filter,,, that means that if the oilfilter missed it then the turbo filter aint got a chance of getting it anyway,,,, not to mention its also another "failure " risk point too that can loose your engine oil AND leak it all over the cambelt at the same time...... not a good thing is it

thinking of removing my pre-filter because of the leak thing, where can you buy new 3dr turbo oil lines from?

I run a stainless braided oil feed with an inline mocal filter on my Focus RS, i'd rather have one and it not pick anything up than not and fook my turbo.

thats a bit like having a extra door lock that dont lock the doors instead of not having a door lock that dont work

its pointless as it does fuck all,,,, there or not it wont do a fucking thing,,,, your better off crossing your fingers or holding rosemary beads when driving

the turbo will die with it,,,,, the oil filter filters more microns than the turbo filter,,,, if you left the part on the shelf at demon tweeks it would still be doing just as good a job "saving your turbo"
