Default reducing lag on tdi ? (VW - PD130)

Drove car for first time yesturday. Its very quick and torquey. It also has some kind of dump valve, you hear the turbo whistle as it spools up and when you let off it goes "tssshh" lol and is quite loud! sounds cool in a chavvy way! Im guessing its a recirc however TDI's in VAG engines dont recirc so I have been told

Anyway i was wondering how you reduce lag ? Say i change up at 2.5k in 3rd into 4th, there is a bit of lag untill it gets going again.

Im guessing a decat will help, anything else ? I havent chipped the car yet, but thinking of getting one of those tuning box things / a generic remap untill i can afford the £500 to remap the car.
I gotta buy 4 new tyres, new wipers etc first!

Thanks alot

A dump valve is causing you lag...

There is no need for one on a diesel - its not there as std!

Get it remapped by your local Evolution Chips dealer - it will fell much much better and cost less than £500 - RRP is £369 and many will do a deal

Nearest one is Bristol which is 2*0 mile round trip! Does it take all day to do it ?

I cant see how it can be a dump valve as a diesel uses vacuum and not boost like a petrol car, so there is nothing to "dump" is there ?

there is no lag on them to begin with !

mine will pull away cleanly in fifth at 1000rpm with no bother at all ! though mine has been remaped at MSD some two years ago.

the turbo creates 'boost' the same as a petrol car so it has a charge of air to 'dump' when the throttle is shut.
i have a PD150 & has next to no lag. i would advise if it has a dump valve to bin it, the PD's run out of injector after 230bhp, then they also start smashing gearboxes etc....
for a high power PD i would be looking at a 'proper' specialist for the vags, Gav at 'the derv doctor' is very good with vag's.

Get it remapped, you will be properly made up.

Then if you want more power, you can get your turbo hybrid'd by Turbo Dynamics, will cost about £700 and will be good for 210-220bhp. Then add a front mount, bigger clutch and a bigger exhaust and voila, easy 200bhp.

Alot of people get a PD150 turbo hybrid'd though, have seen a few PD130 engines doing 250bhp 370lb/ft.
