I was at Brands last week , a few of these on track as well .
i cant believe how LOUD the supercharged ones are , as a dedicated trackday car the whine/induction/general fkin noise is way over what drive by meters should allow !!

very very fast cars for the money.

Ł42k is not a lot of money for the performance!!

Same with lotus' and nobles, they punch well above thier wieght and are akin to a bunny attacking a lion and winning

Lotus's rule man.

About half the power to weight of the other two, but trounced them both. The levels of grip are just at a far higher level in the Lotus, you can use the power that you have got. Now imagine twice the power and 100kg's less and you have a proper Lotus!!

We raced at Anglesey a month ago, but on the full circuit. I had my first pole and a lights to flag victory, its an awesome place.

So Pork Chop how do you think our race is gonna go????????????????

Your Westie is gonna be about the same power to weight as the R500, but is gonna handle worse. I have twice the power to weight as the 2-11 and mine handles better than it????

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anglesey track is awesome. Seems to have spent all its recent refurb money on the circuit. Garages (corregated shacks lol) and facilities are still not up to spec though which I think keeps bigger championships away.

Noticed Chris Harris doesnt do autocar vids anymore. Does he work for this drivers-republic site now. Anybody know the score. Good presenter imo

I got 10 mins in the passenger seat of the Atom yesterday and it was a fantastic experience.

In answer to Chops question - the only thing i've been out in that compared for straight line speed with an 1100kg Time Attack Evo running 46psi on a GT42R - and that cost over Ł150,000 to build

In answer to the question of how Porkies Westy would hold up against it - i think both drivers would have an awesome time playing against each other!!! Lee's Westy is definitely more torquey, but the Atom has such an instant punch to it when the throttle is stabbed, i honestly think they'd be good playmates! Lee's might have the edge power wise though

Had a go in one round asdas car park 4 years ago, (non supercharged)
i was working in the shop at the time and there was one on display for a local charity event, me and my buddy took it out up and down the car park after hours,

nearly got the sack for it, haha, left a month later anyway, but they are quick little cars, would love to have a proper go in one,

Yeah he's left Autocar Magazine now so no more online vids either. Shame becuse I really liked his column and no nonsence approach. He's doing vids, as said, for Drivers Republic now.

Seriously?! Holy crap! What speed do they do and where do they run out of puff? If at all

I am with you there, Atom looks balistic but a bit too lairy. Lotus looks fast but boring to be honest(sure it isn't when in it) but the Caterham looks spot on and sounds great!!

caterhams are shit and break LOTS, and you feel very exposed on a general track day with 1600kg M5's pulling across the front of you. Atoms ARE well built and quicker. a good lotus is as quick and prettier.

lee, i would love to see a cossie powered westy on par with an atom but my money's on the atom!

also, watching these at brands on 1st june, when they were on track with mini cooper s, with our eyes closed we couldn't tell the difference between the noise of an atom and the noise of a mini - they sound wank IMO!

Ben

The owner of the Atom said he'd had it round at 160mph

I don't think they 'run out of puff' as such, it's a characteristic of the supercharged engine that the more load and the more revs you give them, the more boost they make

The evo i compared it to however did 212mph and pulled like a train to the 9200rpm limiter in each gear

I'd say 4th gear in the atom felt a bit like 3rd gear in the evo in terms of a 'sense of speed'

Yeah, loved it

Spending a lot of time in 500+bhp cars does spoil your sense of speed/acceleration

However, both Porkies' Westy and the Atom made me grin like a kid

LOL at what you said about being exposed. Fuck that.. E60 M5's are over 1800KG.

i was on wet tyres which were better then slicks for off the line on brunters but they weren't great for braking, road tyres would of been better all rounder.. but yeah for road trim the old datsun can stop,, but how long could you stop it like that for?
and the other two racers were on slicks too..

i thought something might be amiss, I remember reading Ultima used road pads for instant bite on cold brakes & softest springs for best 0-100-0 time.

AP do upgraded discs (cheaper than oem) to replace the Datsun's cracking brembo's.

So just a Nissan GTR for me then, no arial atom...............my wife already owns a hair dryer!

yeah, a bike is a good way of describing it tbh,
