Default FAO: Camera people

Basically i was chatting to the mrs last night and she asked what i fancied for my birthday, i mentioned i would quite like a digital SLR camera. Upon mentioning this she told me about how her dad had given her a old slr camera.

I had a look and there was loads of kit it there including about 6 different lenses. My thought was that could i buy just a Digital slr body and use the lenses for that??

Thanks
Dom

You usually can use old SLR lenses on a new DSLR camera, providing theyre the same fitment, not all Nikon lenses fit all Nikon camera's etc. Generally what you find with the older SLR lenses on DSLR's is that they fit and work but you lose some of the functions you would have with a lens intended for that DSLR camera, eg autofocus, light metering etc.

Which brand are the lenses? eg Nikon, Canon, Sigma, Tamron
What are the numbers on the side of the lenses? eg 18-55 VR f3.5-5 etc
Which DSLR camera are you fancying?

nearly forgot to add, there are lots of websites around nowadays which will have a compatability table for old lenses on DSLR's telling you what will fit and what functions will work.

cheers red,

They are Konica lenses, there are 6 if i remember correctly there are a 28, 50, 35-60, 120 And the f numbers are from 2 - 22 iirc and some others.

I am not sure what sort of camera i was looking at but was a thought that if i bought the correct body i could make use of a lot of different lenses and was quite interested in learning how to use the manual functions as well instead of it all been automatic.

I'd suggest you either have a good look around the internet via google to see if you can pull up any info on what cameras those lenses will fit, or take them into a shop such as jacobs/jessops and see what the guy behind the counter has to say .

I'd suggest taking it to some where like Jessops and ask them, I had lenses off a slr camera and they would fit camera but would not focus, its only a case of getting a chip changed in the lense and was free of charge when i got mine.
