Have you EVER done a genuine 190mph? There is SO much you have to take into consideration in a metter of split seconds, wind direction, feeling howe the car is holding up, listening to the tyres, concentrating onyour braking point, holding the fucking thing steady! 190mph is MASSIVELY different to 160mph!

Why does everyone say this. That scottish lad said it,(forget his name) who did 184mph. It literally is planting your foot and keeping it steady. Noone is a pro driver on this board and peeps do it all the time on other forums without "massive" experience. Any half decently intelligent driver could look out for all those things you just said. I promise you know I would hold a car flat out. 180mph is fstest I have been.
If god forbid something untoward happens I will have to ensure that I did everything possible to reduce the chance of accidents - otherwise I will go to prison.

The speedo may well have said 184mph... when in fact he was probably a lot less than that.
When i did the 181mph in Lees porsche on state of the art timing gear, the speedo actually said 201!

Thanks Martin and Dan, good answers I swear everyone thinks your having a dig on this board just for having an opinion
I suppose safety is key, brakes like Martin said and wind on a massive runway etc. But people do silly speeds without to much thought. John McGuiness did 191mph at Isle of Man and was told it looks damp over the mountain. There are endless stupid bike speeds on motorways and look at the gumballers for example.

He just got up hungover and floored it

The Escort to me felt very unstable there, but then that might just be 'me' if that makes sense ? I tried several times and then gave up pmsl Top spped runs has not really been my fav things to do LOL Wont find out what its like at that speed / point now either. However i'am looking forward to taking her on track when I get organised !

I had a very "meh, so what" attitude to top speeds until I went in Dave's car on his runs.
194mph isnt scarey at all on a motorway, done it loads of times in various cars, but the moment you do it when you are trying to guess where the last possible chance to brake is, it gets a lot more interesting.
Dave had a "moment" at 194 where he stood on the brakes and it started to twist sideways slightly, at about that point in time, I realised that actually its not quite as easy as it looks.
That said you dont need to be a pro driver, you just need to be brave enough to keep your foot in despite the rate at which the artic lorries and things at the end of brunters are approaching and inteligent enough not to leave it too late to stand any chance of stopping, its a relatively straightforward exercise in principle, but in practice does feel somewhat more involved!
