I doubt you could feel anything at all?? im guessing the frequencies would be way too high to hear it too.

I have had turbo brackets crack when using a bailey damper before...i switched to standard 2wd and it was fine.

bring the engine up to 3k revs car static and at normal operating temperature,
increase rpm by 100 rpm increments whilst watching your turbo upto 4k rpm ,you will soon find the harsh spot for your engine.
If you have no damper fitted or it is worn out or incorrectly set you will see the turbo jumping around

4x4's and escort cosworths had a different exhaust manifold so a damper wasn't required

my shitley damper resonates around 2750 with no load and a almost brand new turbo, so its nothing to do with a fucked turbo. Its because its rose jointed and they vibrate causing the noise. Mines just pissing me off now, so im ditching it in favour of the T4 damper. I also need to know how it fits, lol.

I always thought bailey type dampers did fuck all.... What do the dampers actually do then? As I had terrible trouble with studs falling out of the exhaust on my old T34 saff, I take it the spring is the important part, to take the harshness out of the vibrations?

Also, I take it bailey type "dampers" are actually useful for taking the weight of larger turbos to save manifolds cracking etc?

the dampers are friction dampers which reduce the harmonic resonation
the standard cast manifold can support the weight of any large turbo it's the tubular ones that can't and require support brackets and braces
harmonic resonation causes studs to fall out and or brake it also affects the turbo operation

Great topic.

Tony, what is the actual problem then? I am trying to imagine what the damper actually does? I take it the vibrations/harmonics try to twist the manifold/turbo, or is it just pure frequency vibrations etc that the damper trys to eliminate/ move out of range?

I take it the natural frequency of a 2wd manifold is the cause of the problems? How do different size turbos affect this?

I would say that is more than likly the cause of my turbo faults NO DAMPER and 4 turbos

The bit that spaces to help fit !!
