OLD VS NEW
After ive had a few small body ouch ups done i want a new engine and box to go into the car.. Out of these engines which offeres the best power for your money..
Zetec
Duratec
N/A cossie
Pinto
When i looked at big power out of a pinto i nearly died at the cost, where as a zetec you can piss on it and get power from it. Any opinions/facts views.

Zetec is best bang for your buck out of that list imo.
duratec's a better engine but too expensive to fit in rwd at the moment.
NA cossie costs a bomb, but gives very good power
pinto is expensive to egt decent power from and if it blows you've had it, wheras with a zetec you can ust use the standard lump with carbs etc and if it goes then you just get another one froma breakers for 200 quid
if you want big figures then either turbo the zetec or stick a cossie turbo in there.

How about a vauxhall XE?
Along the same lines as a cossie N/A lump but you can pick one up for peanuts.
Also the loom is compeltely self contained so its a doddle to fit and you can get an adaptor to use it with a Type 9 gearbox.

duno that it's mate to a standard bellhousing so you could be looking at lots of fabrication work (exhaust won't be cheap!) so might as well do the 4 pot duratec IMO.

Standard Xe bought for 200 quid plus a few hundred quid on carbs and a couple of hundred on the rollers = 180bhp for 800 quid.
And they are bulletproof up to 7250rpm if you put some decent rod bolts in them.
If you want much more rpm than that though you need decent rods, so might be better to go cossie as it will be an extra 500 quid or so for the rods on the XE by which time its not such a cheap option anymore.

same for a 2.0 zetec... well, 170-175 bhp anyway and less messing about getting it to fit either.

sorry been at work since.. Cant go for cossie turbo as at 21 (22 in march) it will kill me in insurance.. And theres alot more that would be needed to be done to that car.
From what ive found out so far i could get a 2.0 zetec second hand for £200-300. With £300 on cams & £1500 on throttle boddies will just about reach 200bhp. So thats £2100 roughly. Which isnt bad i suppose.
I keep thinking i want something different though. Everyones done zetec and cossie, dont want an XE cos i want to keep it Ford. Guess its a case of Wallet vs wanting. Im sure duratecs will be the next big thing but i aint gonna be the one to fund all the R&D
