Need some flooring done in Croydon..
So me and the Mrs should be moving into our flat in the next few weeks, and the VERY first thing that needs to be done is carpet up walls painted and flooring down. Now I can do the first two bits... but I'll be damned trying to do flooring correctly. When it comes to cutting wood properly I'm all thumbs...
Anyway to the point,
i) Who would recommend where to get the flooring from, quality stuff, but reasonably priced.
ii) Who will fit it and not charge a bomb.
Roughly, its going to be about 30 square meters at the most.

Its a small one bed flat, looking to get the hallway and living room done. I recon max its about 30 square meters.
But we have a bedroom to do too, but I recon the Mrs wants carpet in there so might get that put down at the same time.
Its going over a concreate floor I believe typical with most flats.
Not sure what type of flooring to use. Would like something that durable and looks like real wood and not some cheapo stuck down stuff. But I am worried about how thick we can get away with, so solid might be a bad idea. So most likely will go engineered.
Underlay will probably be needed just to help soundproof. Heating we probably wont need. What options do we have?
Probably will have the skirtings off, depending on how much more money that will cost.
Will probably be looking to get it done in the next month or two.

Best really to take the skirting off, lay the flooring right to the edge of the wall and then put new skirting on top of the flooring.
You will need plastic sheeting to stop moisture, you then put underlay or felt tiles ontop of that and the flooring ontop of that.
Floors2go in Croydon where banging our flooring a while back, not sure if they're still there as they were going under.
We went engineered (walnut) which is really very nice. Does scratch tho so be careful if you have pets. High heele are a no no and runners a must. I don't mind the scratchs though to be honest, wood needs the odd scratch plus you can sand it down. If we were to do it again i'd do everything i did before expect varnish it before putting all the furniture back!
Top gear top tip, buy the felt pads to go on sofas, tv stands etc from tesco for 10% of the cost from floor shop!
Me and my mate fitted mine across 2 large rooms and a hall way. My mates a chippy by trade but does private jobs, i would reccommend him to you and you can check mine out first if you like (I'm not far from gatwick 10mins or so)

Well Passionford doesn't have any shortage of floor fitters does it
Top tips that
If we get a chance will drag my Mrs over to have a look. She is really indecicive and can't decide on colour let alone style yet But its going to have to be done within a week of us getting the keys and us moving in.

can't remember the name of the shop but there was a place in purley (on brighton rd, pretty much opposite dolphin bathrooms) that did the flooring in my old house and they not only provided an excellent finish but were also very reasonably priced. (although that was amtico so i can only compare it to quotes for the same stuff).

major no no mate, it ALL expands if it cant expand it pushes against the wall and make it 'rise' thus walking on it damages the joint/fitting and could fuck it,
if its engineered or solid it NEEDS to be aclimitise(sp) for 48/72 hours minimum in the rooms it's been fitted in and a 12mm expansion gap between all walls/doorframes.

Yes you are right and what i have written is not what i ment. You do need to leave a gap around from the edge of the wall and plank against the wall. I've not yet put the skirting on mine so will take a picture. What i ment to say was to position the flooring so that you lay the skirting on top of the flooring.
I wanted to replace the skirting anyway as it's the shitty council spec small stuff!
