ive got compbrake tcas and compression struts too. didnt get any torque settings with them and when i done them, up, i was hanging off of them

the bolts are a bit short IMO too, looks like they need another 10mm i thought when i fitted mine.

I'm good thanks Andy, glad to see you're still enjoying the Mk2. Awesome car.

I wondered if they had failed soon after fitting. How bizarre to go 11 months later while just running it out of the garage. Glad you are ok, any damage to the car from the wheel being wedged in the arch?

you say they look to short???

the heads fell off so it wouldnt make any diffrence if they were longer might just have been a bad batch of bolts

I don't understand the failure mechanism there? ... The bolts are under no load, as the vertical load is being transmitted through the two large plates/stepped washers either side of the TCA, via the stepped hole in the TCA. The horizontal /car moving forwards directional loading is pushing the compression strut into the car, so the bolt is under no real axial load!! The only time I can see the bolts being directly stressed is if the car is going backwards, where the bolt will be holding the strut together against the front washer/plate in the TCA.

Did they fail as the car being driven/towed backwards?

The only other thing I can think of is were the bolts actually home and tight, or had they bottomed out allowing a gap between the head and the large washer/plate? If there was a gap it would allow the comp strut to move back and forth in the TCA and hit the head of the bolt, eventually knocking it off as your pics show..... Also, was there a small washer fitted under the head?

Might be worth contacting Compbrake as I am sure they would appreciate the heads up, and Tony will be more than helpful I am sure in resolving this.

as the car moves forward it pulls on the bolts not push as you say

It didn't just happen, the rust clearly shows this was at least cracked and about to fall to bits months before, you've been very lucky.
Other might have used a more ductile fitting there such as high grade alloy bolts, but these stell one should have been well up to the job anyway.

only one bolt wascracked & rusty the other one was perfect ,i can see why the rusty one brokeit was only holding on by a very small amount but why did the other one brake
