F1 teams drop breakaway bombshell
Formula One has been thrown into chaos after the Formula One Teams Association (Fota) carried out its threat to set up a rival championship in 2010.
Eight of F1's major teams have been frustrated by deadlocked talks with world motorsport boss Max Mosley over his controversial budget cap proposals.
"The teams have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 F1 Championship," said the teams.
"We've no alternative than to commence preparation for a new championship."
... Fota refused to agree to his conditions, prompting championship leader Brawn GP, Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, Toyota, BMW Sauber, Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso to take their drastic action.
They announced their decision following a four-hour meeting on Thursday night ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

That'll rattle little Bernie's play pen if the big boys go and play on their own..

Interesting times. Looking forward to seeing the details. Tracks Bernie has excluded etc, etc. Wonder if any "new" teams will join this lot?

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I think it is just sabre rattling as has been said, but F1 should be wheel to wheel racing on the edge l understand the need to have more teams though

Testing the future
unless the closeness of the racing is there, any beakaway would struggle commercially without the glamour of the official f1 brand imo. not with the proper motorsport fans, but with the general public and probably with sponsors.

Its just a shame IMO....soon F1 will be like boxing, full of corruption and full of SOOOOO called world champs!!...its best left in one domain, regardless of how people percieve it to be run, than several(in time) break away organisations!
