Whining noise on boost, what to check apart from knackered turbo?
Ok I have a funny whining noise on boost, I AM AWARE IT COULD BE THE TURBO, but what else could possibly cause this, an air leak, or perhaps even a fuel pressure issue?
Fixed a couple of things the other day and now the car pulls really well only boosting 12-13psi, but i don't want to push it anymore as this is when it starts whining. Turbo was ok before i got the engine rebuilt, is there anyway that leaving it sitting would make it degrade and whine like that???

As above check your hoses.
I had this problem now and again when it came on boost it would whistle like the turbo was on its way out. Found out the problem was the coupling boost hose that connects the throttle body to the charge carrier needed tighting as it was leaking air. This was on my series 2 not a cossie but I would presume the same applies in both circumstances.

i'd be very surprised if its the amal valve, it's basically just an electronic bleed valve.
I think it'll be your boost hoses, remove and refit all 3 and im sure it'll be pukka!
