Default Insurance question - should i?

Basicly i got a family member asking me to teach them to drive,
I did not really want to do it, but said i will if....

you buy your own car
you insure it

which is fair as they need to be insured anyway.

they are getting quotes back of £2k but if i go as a NAMED driver, it brings it down to £800.

If that person has an accident, does it effect my NCB? as they are the policy holder... i am only going to be on it to drive it back sometimes and also to bring the price down.

Won't affect you in any way, you are a named driver, a driver that is named on the list of people who are covered to drive on that policy. That is all.
