Weirdly it doesnt look as bad now they are black, it used to look REALLY wrong when they were silver, but I havent got a picture of that to show you what I mean.
Blacking wheels always hides a multitude of sins
Anyway, go with the rim tape, you can always rip it off if you grow to not like it...

I'm not a fan. Easily reversable though.
It seems to be this years Ford must have, next year you'll all be saying how gash they are like flamer kits etc etc. There is always something that everyone has to do every season to be different but by doing so they end up being like the rest of the crowd IMHO. Its like a massive game of Follow My Leader.
All IMHO of coarse and not said to offend.

it makes the wheels stand out and, if peole don't look too carefully, will hide the kerb damage

Like the Evo 5 yellow? I always thought it looked brighter in the mag feature a few years ago.
Mind you the black wheels help tone down any brightness. Fair play though, it still looks clean and tidy.

I have to say they still make me smile, chavvy or not.
Neil, yours do look good.... for the time being. Once they trickle onto the more garry'd up motors they wont look good on any car ever again.
Its just the way it works so for the meantime enjoy them.
I have to say that the ones on the Fiesta (escos rims) makes it look like his missus has borrowed the car and kerbed them. lol

With! You can buy the new pro race wheels with a stripe. It's copying the Jap's Volks etc, but bike wheels have been pinstriped for ages so hardy a new thing.

without imo,
but maybe it would work on dark wheels if you painted the inside of the wheel yellow, so it can be seen through the spokes,
ive done a few contrasting colours like this and it works ok...no pics though
...seems to work well on dark rims imo, not in your face, but a nice touch if you gander through the wheel
