Default New Focus RS Power Upgrades???

Just a quick question really after i've watched a Drivers Republic video of the ST260 vs the GGR ST300.

Anyone know if Ford will be doing some upgrades for the RS Engine? They did a great job with the ST upgrade so it'd be great if they did a upgrade for the RS.

It would be very logical to presume that's the case...

Yes, Mountune and at least one other well known company will be involved.

Im talking about a Ford upgrade, not aftermarket tuner.

I heard Wolf are already working on some kits for it, I believe they have had the RS specs for a little while now.

Would be very cool. I have noticed that majority of tuners out there tend to have high power output but the power would mostly be at the top of the rev range.

Which is why i was asking about the Ford Upgrades. As Jost Capito wanted the power to be available from across the whole rev range and he did accomplish that with the ST Upgrades.

Very Exciting!!!

I presume these aftermarket tuners big power claims allow for many many changes including new injectors! Ford do not want their new RS fucked with with warrenty claims galore!

Do you know the moment you aftermarket tuner opens the security sealed ECU you invalidate the warrenty completely?

Mountune have alot of FORD BACKED AND WARRENTY ASSURED tuning packages coming up very soon! I would wait for that. The RS is designed to be extremely complex and very hard for tuners to touch. I know for a fact Ford have their own team to examine evry warrenty claim reagrding the Focus RS, these are not stupid people!

Ł30k is a lot for a focus with NO warrenty!

i cant really see someone buying a new FRS and taking it to anyone, and from what ive read about the circle of tuners on here im sure most people would trust them 100% with there 30k car

I totally agree with you mate. Which is when i purchase mine next year i'll only wait for the official ford upgrades so i don't have any of that voiding warranty bollocks!

Its not so much about trusting. Its more about the development of the upgrades. I'm sure alot of Tuner use high quality stuff. But its where the power is available on the rev range. I was pretty surprised at how the Focus ST with the ST260 upgrade pee'd all over the GGR ST300.

it doesnt take them long to make upgrades for new cars. I think in a few months we will see some silly power figures coming from these focus rs.s

I suspect many will got for the Mountune conversion when it's released. I was down at their HQ the other week and while I was waiting in reception a bloke turned up virtually demanding that they "tweak his power up". He was gutted when they said they hadn't released their conversion yet. He'd had the car for a week!

The ECU is indeed very encripted, but tuners are a clever bunch, and no ECUs stay uncracked for long!

There appears to be quite a few people on here who have spent at least Ł30k on performance upgrades on 20 year old cars.
I doubt the loss of warranty will affect anyone looking for serious power.

I would expect the ECU has already been cracked.

I cant say I agree with you there. Spending your wages each month on your 20 year old car is very different to putting up 30 large in one go and potentially loosing half that easy when you try and sell it with no warrenty thanks to a tuners 'tweeks'!

If you knew how complex the management is on the new RS you would think differently! There are always ways of tricking things to do something and then there is the right way buy understanding all the extremely complex seperate maps the car runs from things like interior lights to throttle position! None of which actually say interior light or throttle map its just a mass of incripted code!

Given time I do not doubt these very clever tuners will crack it and FULLY understand it! In a month or so since its release? I cant really see it myself!

Then again I dont own one and cant afford one so I am not in a position to say what I would do!

Most of buzz I've heard about tuning the RS is the extremely thin cylinder walls. Most are waiting a while to see how other engines cope with increase power.

Breaking the encryption on an ECU isnt impossible, BMW had a very very good encyiption on their 335 ECU's which was to stop the 335's being capable of being tuned to chew up M3s. It was only recently in the UK where DMS started offering stange one maps - releasing 70hp on the 335i petrol cars!

Probably just use the ST upgrades already on the market, under the RS title with a hefty price!

Not as simple as that Ranj, everything's linked to the cluster, so that's only an option if you want to ditch all your dash instrumentation and more...

Alo, on that occasion I think I was having a pizza, then a quick divert to Team RS...

Well i just looked on the Mountune Website and they have a Focus RS Section with 'Watch This Space' written in. So i guess the Ford RS upgrade will be available pretty soon. Good to know people can get a little more power without voiding warranty
