Default Anybody with knowledge of car finance?

Basically, I have a 3rd private plate on retention that I was going to put on my Calibra but have decided against it. My other half decided that we should put it on her car so she went over to the DVLA local office and got it all done.

She was gonna ring her finance co today to let them know however reading through her contract she has realised that she should have contacted them BEFORE she got the plate changed, to get their authorization

Shes now worried that if she rings them up they will terminate her contract. I've told her that she should ring up and explain the situation, afterall they DO need to know that its been changed.

Anybody any experience?

Cheers

John

You should be fine!BAsically the only reason they need to know is because theoretically they own the car until all of the finance is paid off.But if you call them and explain it has already been done, they really shouldnt have a problem.

Worst they can say is if you don't remove it then they will terminate the agreement. They will not terminate the agreement straight away.

Only reason they ask to be told first is if you ever defaulted on payments they would be able to remove the car etc.

Thats what I thought - explain that it was an honest mistake and that we have notified them as soon as practical.

End of the day if they decide to terminate the agreement i'll just ask for a figure to settle and pay it off myself, its only about 6k on it I think. The missus can pay me back then

When I put my private plate on my Mondeo, I forgot to tell the finance company (GE Capital now Sandander) that I had changed plates. Then a few weeks later, got a letter from them basicaly acknoleging that ive changed plates. I did honestly forget & not to get out of anything.

Wonder if i'll get a letter now as ive sold the car to my dad and still have 13 months of finance still owing on it.

This is the same company concerned Andy (GE now Santander)

She rang them up and they simply said they would send out a form to update the details for her to fill in and return, simply so they can update HPI etc

Cheers folks
