the telly was on, the next thing you know, the box has switched off, just the little red light showing

even after leaving it uplugs for 15 minutes has not resluted in any life being in the box

is it fooked?
will i have to tell sky to cancel unless they give me another one?

Your box has gone into 'safe mode' and only a technician can bring it out. its protecting its self from fucking up good n proper as it has a fault.

ring sky and tell them to give you a free service call, any service call you get will have a box allocated to it and it will be with the engineer when he calls at your house. he should just swap it over and pair your card for you.

If sky say you can't have a 'free service call' just tell them you want to quit. Stand your ground, even if they put you through to cancellations. They give in to you in the end. Standard service calls cost approx £70.

Worst case scenario, they will cancell your contract, but they will inundate you with offers to re-join within a month. although, it railey goes this far.

95% of the time, they will just send someone out to you for free.

will this count if the box is out of warranty then or not?

i've done my year's woth of hd in any case, so that's not an issue in cancelling

I have just repaired my sky hd box myself. It started loosing signal and got loads of random shutdowns. Opened it up and 4 out of 15 capacitors on the PSU were bulging, replaced all the capacitors and its been fine ever since.
Its a common fault with the Thompson HD boxes have a look on Satcure for replacement PSU or a capacitor kit.

i've read that the hd boxes are right pigs to open up, but would a new psu solve the issues then?

not too sure if i want to spend money to put it right or ring up sky and play the virgin card

they come apart easy but shit loads of little screws

ive got a good set of boards if you need 1, ive used the hdd in a pc and the casings looks good as a place to hide my stack of v5's from the missus
