I need a good quality 5k pot for my traction control, can anyone point me in the direction of such an item ?

also 5k seams a lot less common than a 4.7k, why is this when its only 300ohms???

4k7 is in the most common 'preferred value' series, hence there being loads of them. Is there not one supplied with the system?

Ignoring the above, There are >300 5K pots listed on Farnell's website! They range from iddy-biddy ones like this to chunky ones like this.

Downside to using Farnell is the Ł5.95 handling charge for orders below Ł30, though you could easily make it up to that with sleeving, cable, etc....

Bear in mind the Rapid one linked to above doesn't say whether it's linear or log taper. Would assume linear as it mentioned 'linearity' in the spec, but could also be an odd spec relating to tolerance along the track for a log taper.....

to be honoust a switchable pot would be nicer, say 6 positions spread across 5k, would make the settings more repeatable in a standard position, do they do any?

ive seen the switches that you put the pin in to decide how many positions, the i suppose i could just make the positions up with resistors maybe ?

cheers all !

That'd do you - resistance is steps of 0R, 1k2, 2k4, 3k6, 4k8.

Switch is RS part 352-250 for the wafer and RS part 352-187 for the mechanism.

Would suggest going for a 6 way switch though as that's where the stops on the mechanism are... Then just use 1K resistors and you'd have 0R, 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k, 5k....

Hope that helps,

Chris
