Default what sub box do i need?

Hi I have recently bought a 12" jl audio JL W3 sub and need a sub box to use it. Ideally id like a ported box but im not sure if you can get different sub box's with different depths and im not sure wots the best sub box to get the most out of the sub. Has anyone used this sub and wot box did u use. Does anyone know if bassboy makes sub boxs or buys them in and roughly how much would one cost basicly i dont know whether to get a box off ebay or buy one more specialised for the job?

For a ported box, you generally need a 1/3 bigger box than a sealed enclosure.

As for exact litres on the size of the box, why not check just on the JL audio website?

here

Oh, and I hope you are giving it LOADS of juice, as these puppies are thirsty!

bandpass or transmission line would be good .. but in a car i dont think there is enough space for the latter lol....
and yeah some shop bought ones are truly shocking, homebase cut wood to size so there is a place to start if your stuck.
nice rigid 3/4 ply or mdf braced inside makes a huge difference heavy as though nothing worse than a sub that vibrates its box ...

transmission line will give you geat bottom end but for a 12" driver it would need to be 7 ft long so no chance,,, bandpass is the way for you in the boot. i would use a sealed box and drive it wiith twice RMS it needs, thats gona give you real fast tight bass which imo is what you need in a car to hear it properly. if you use a ported box it getts all wolly and far too slow etc.

Yeh, people see 300wrms on a sub box and think that a 300wrms amp will drive it sufficiently, when in reality you need 500-600wrms!
