That side of it IS working properly, when I had my ALS fitted, mine did the exact same thing and I just fitted a relay to prevent it .
Itsmeagain had ALS and his did the same thing - guess what he did?
Regarding the comments on this post, the crux of the matter is, just because you can map an engine, doesn't necessarily mean you can spec and build one .

but ffs why charge a hideous amount to incorrectly fit a wastegate, that DIRECTLY leads to an engine failure, then refuse to repair the engine of probably one of his most valuble customers?? and how much does a relay cost ??? again surley taking 30 mins to fit a poxy relay to make an ALS system work 100% with no hassle is worth it?
sorry but it just dosn't make sense to me

At the end of the day, its the luck of the draw with an engine, Tuners can only put in the components that they know are reliable, but sometimes these carry manufacturing defects.....we get in all the time in production. I know of two Harvey engines that have given up the ghost ( one which had only just been run in and the owner put money towards the rebuild), but i haven't made a song and dance about it.
Go with who you know or what you feel confident about. If people choose to pay more money for an engine rebuild that you think should have warranty, then leave them to part with their own hard earned money. They're probably doing it for a reason. Sorry if that sounds bitchy.

There seems to be alot of people talkining alot of sh1t, they know not alot about.
I think that if everyone knew the FULL story about what happened then peoples views on the subject may alter some-what.
I know Ian a little and have spoke to him a few times.
I know and respect Paul for his work.
I know people that won't go to Engine Advantages any more, and I also know people that won't go anywhere else either.
To say someone is a con artist or a rip off, is a bit harsh TBH. People are entitled to charge what they charge, and they get what they get.
I don't se how shouting off the roof tops does any favours to anyone ( I guess you're gonna say your helping people make the right choice )
On the question of why Paul is still in business is because his business is bigger than Passion Ford. Sorry that's the truth. He has tons of regular customers that keep coming back time after time after time, and Ford's are not the only car out there.
I fell it is sad when people get a caining on here at all TBH and I feel for the people who are now paranoid about their car blowing up due to ''bad workmanship'' It's like when someone buys something new, and everyone slags it off~!!!!!
Mad

The ALS DOES work 100% with this happening, I believe it was done like this so that every time you started the car you knew that the ALS valve was working okay (as they need regular cleaning to prevent them sticking) . Not a problem in a rally car, but just annoying (and makes you look a Chav ) in a road car.

Iv'e had work done by Paul & tbh what he charged me for mapping was very reasonable.
Also have a friend with a XR4i with a cossie lump who had it setup by Paul over a year ago, 354bhp on 803's ported head etc & he gives it death everywhere, like off the clock in 5th & also is a regular at the pod, the car has never missed a beat.
Paul wouldn't be my choice for a rebuild but have no problem with his mapping / tuning.
Simon.

I had one of those..
I had a problem where I couldn't rev above 6000rpm.
He said it was probably the CPS Setup and that i needed a new loom.
I came to pick it up and was presented with an Ł800 bill and the car no more fixed than it was when it arrived.
A simple compression test would have revealed the problem was infact a valve not seating. Also simply plugged a laptop in would have indicated that the CPS setup was working fine too.
I drove away after paying Ł800, somewhat annoyed.
Started it up, sounded awful, running on three cylinders. (This is after they said it was test drove) so though fair enough, maybe it happened afterwards..... replace plug.. off I go....
5 yards out of the car park and the newly fitted alternator cuts thought the water hose.
He sorted it out in the end, he removed all his CPS stuff and I paid some of the bill for the CPS stuff (God knows why) and he mapped it after I got the valve lapped in and I was happy with the result but I certainly would never ever go back.

well hes no different to alot of tuners out there, infact hes prob better than most in other departments
i dont know about ians situation, nor effe's situation that paul sorted out ( not a problem paul started or had anything to do with either i belive )
i know my quote was very good, hence why i drove 80 miles with a engine in the boot of my car
i didnt like the extra bit on my bill for cleaning a block deck though !!!!!!!
that made the price the same as i could have got from a more local mechanic and i wouldnt need to remove the engine to have it done either
oh and i wouldnt have had to wait 3 months either !!!!
but he is a nice guy to talk to and when ya talk to him ya know he knows his shit
well he did say i was gonna need valve pockets cut out at first due to my cam choice, but he tried it as i sugested and all was ok

my oh my, what a clever, efficent, and free flowing, external wastegate setup, i wonder why the boost was totaly uncontrolled
who can answer this clever one...
If you cant control the boost AT ALL, how can you live map a car, AND how can you rolling road it at 28psi boost?
Datalogging kicks ass, finally can blame people properly

Steve, the other one with the engine view is interesting. Before anyone asks, I never told him to mount the wastegate in this way ..... just to retain the WRC tubular exhaust manifold. I thought he'd drill it and weld a pipe to it like with a 2WD one - simple - not use the EGR pipes!!
More tomorrow !!

Thats the EGR ALS pipes that the wastegate was mounted on.
MikeR will know that floor well, its Harveys, he took the pics.
Ian told him he wanted to keep the EGR ALS and the WRC manifold, he didnt state where the wastegate would have to go, thats daft for anyone to do, and anyone who knows Ian would know he wouldnt try and tell a tuner what to do, but thats how it was fitted.
But thats only half of it really.
