Jim so your saying the Standard 24v is perfectly tuned for Power as standard?

I personally feel all standard engines are tuned for the best of both, emissions, econony and the best power comming from that.

So a small tweak as little more fuel and better spray patern may help power?

Surely an extra injector controlled by a pressure switch would solve that?

Anyway, fuck this, i'm off to fit a set off greys to my 1.1 Saxo

Let me know how you get on mate as i fancy doing the greys on my tdi passat

hi mate , i know these engines respond well to having tubular exhaust manifolds fitted , freeflow exhaust system air filters and chips my mate got about 30 bhp by fitting the manifolds only.
make the tubular manifolds yourself , get the bends and laser cut flanges (send him a manifold gasket) from lance at ojz engineering in lincoln i would say they would cost you about Ł100 a side to make and get welded.
then if your hungry for more power fit throttle bodies these aint cheap at a Ł1000 (merlin motorsport in burton on trent built loads of f1 engines etc ) and pectel management at Ł1300 for the ecu and wiring harness and Ł450 for live mapping you should see a solid n/a 300bhp engine like the one they use in the ford supervan 3 and have you heard that its fookin amazing and goes like shit of a shovel
but a good cheap starting point is the above then move up to the next stage if you want
hope this helps
cheers paul

the 300bhp supervan engine has a lot more work than just that mate.

i have also heard that they respond well to the fitting of tubular manifolds but not had first hand experience of this

yep your right mate pistons , rods ,crank , ported and polished cylinder heads etc but ive heard that it runs close to 450bhp n/a at high revs (9500) and is now detuned to 300bhp at 7500 rpm and thats why the pistons , rods , and crank were fitted but cosworth say that the standard bottom end is ok for 350bhp as i know people who have low boost turbo set ups running 350bhp

the engines were used for a race series in kit cars and they were heavily modified in the way youre talking about to produce 300bhp

you can ofcourse do this to your 24v if you wish but again it would be FAR more economical to bin the engine and fit a more powerful one.

24v engines make a great cheap quick car. but they are not cheaply tuneable and not really designed with performance in mind

The engine you are talking about is a FBE engine.

its has bob cams, cosworth high comp forged pistons, cosworth H rods(shorter), long throw crank, differant bearings, throttle bodys, differant valve springs and dry sump.

I know as I know bruce from merlin.

edit I remember more the pistons are realy domed with massive valve cut outs and they have diferant injectors, MBE managment.

wow for a second i thought i was on chav-your-saxo.com

just changing the injectors and upping the fueling is a stupid thing to do without properly checking it, if these engines do respond to more fuel then its because as standard it is running lean.

but instead of getting the dice out, put a wide band on it and ACTUALLY CHECK what AFR it is running, i would be shocked if there was not enought room in the standard injectors to up the fueling to the required amount IF it is running lean.

Seen one Capri running tripple carbs, sure that would be good.
Or hows about a setup of throttle bodies or even a set and a half of bike bodies?

hey, i bare shelled a p100 and rebuilt it usin mt75 box and a boa engine. 4x4. im pretty new to all this so i dont have any pics yet or anything. but im in a similar position to Aaron 2136. the thing is the YBs are money pits and they blow up all the time. The 24v is as reliable as old boots as long as u change the oil. i dynod myn and witha K&N and a 3' exhaust system it made 220bhp so thats on tap witha standard YB. vhauxhall injectors are good for about 20bhp.
but m8 u wanna know a secret. the BOB cam thing..... its rubbish. some of the bobs had the same cam as the BOA and on some theres onlt a few thou in it.
if u use a BOB bottom end and a BOA top end u get 9-1 compresion. thatl giva ya about 260bhp. with no impared reliablilty
haha long reply

Apart from Taps and a couple of others here, wot a load of sh1t you know nuffinks talk....

The reason V6 Vectra injectors work better in these engines is because they have a better spray pattern, giving better fuel atomisation. They will flow more fuel if the lambdas tell the ecu to hold 'em open longer, but more fuel is not the issue here.

Also, fit BOA heads to a BOB block and get 9:1 compression....that's clever, cos a stock BOB is 9.7:1 lololol

And as for getting more power from a weedy little 4 pot YB don't even get me started on that one, they cost a fortune to build right and don't last long over about 330 BHP....
If you really want to know, a BOB has the strongest bottom end and is easy to get big power without spending loads if you know how.....

Exhaust headers are good, BOB cams ARE better than BOA, Decent Intake with cold air, (not a crap Halfrauds one), and after that turbo it up to about 12 psi on stock cr, and run Emerald or Megasquirt Management.

Will eat YB's for breakfast and last 10 times longer if you've built it right.

Right thats my 10p worth, I'm off to continue building rally cars.

not realy worth the hassel mate, keep it standerd with a descent exhaust, filter etc i reakon you should be hitting around the 230bhp with just a couple of simple mods,300bhp is about max without changing the inlet/plenum as they are restricted

Doh....I give up....

Not on a BOB they aren't, and if you're turboing a BOA fit a turbo plenum

doesn't the Ecu and o2 sensors throttle the fuel down to the correct mixture, so the vector injectors are they just an improved spray pattern as conceptually they should not be injecting more fuel ?

To be fair, it is good that people do use the search function. And maybe some info in an old thread will be of use.....but it's always hopeful of expecting a response
